Deep House Music: Terry Lee Brown Jr. - Wait [Nacho Marco Dub] Profeshian - 985 views - 1 week ago
The Cosmic Lounge presents Deep House Music: Nacho Marco's 'Dub' mix of 'Wait' by Terry Lee Brown Jr. feat. Robert Manos.

"For years Terry Lee Brown Jr. has been considered as a member of the international elite of House producers, and like no other, he has developed the subgenre Tech-House. In the USA and England his first two albums became successes of note and the media got a surprise when they found out Mr. Brown is actually a German.

Terry Lee Brown Jr, alias Norman Feller, began DJing in 1989 and soon thereafter released his first tracks on vinyl under various pseudonyms. 1994 was the turning point for Norman when he decided to dedicate himself totally to music In the following year he invented the house-oriented project (alter-ego) Terry Lee Brown Jr. which allowed him to create his own sound. Plastic City, which was at that time still a very young label, offered Terry an outlet for his music and he has stayed true to this label ever since.

After the success of his first 12+quot; releases came his debut Album Brother For Real in spring of 1996. This release was a true milestone for Tech-House and incorporated elements of Jungle, Trance and Easy Listening. The public response to Brother For Real was gigantic, and not limited to scenesters. Muzik (12/96), Englands most respected dance music magazine chose Brother For Real as one of the top ten albums of 1996 (along with albums from artists like DJ Shadow, Fugees, Underworld and Faithless). Marshall Jefferson, the Chicago House legend, honored Terry in an album review by simply stating +quot; He is God+quot; (Raveline 11/1996).

In fall of 1997 Terrys second album Chocolate Chords garnered further praise and matched the success of Bother For Real. In America Mixmag chose this second effort as one of the top 5 albums of the year.

Terry Lee Brown Jr. is not only a respected producer, but also a much sought-after DJ. This side of the artist is apparent when one listens to the compilation series Terrys Café 1-5. These mixed CDs once again found resonance in the music press and received rave reviews from Muzik, Urb, XLR8R and other national and international magazines. But the story doesnt end there. Remixes from TLB Jr. of such artists as Gabrielle (Rise), Nalin +amp; Kane (Talkin About), Louise (Lets Go Round Again), Paul Van Dyk (For An Angel), Paris Red (Love Hurts), and Future Funk (Music Takes You High) secured his reputation as a true Remix-Artist.

The third and latest album From Dub Til Dawn is a product of two years work and continues the tradition of Terrys genre-bending House-sound. From Dub Til Dawn brings together bass-heavy housegrooves with warm atmospheric planes and fragmented vocals. Sound and rhythm are the most important in this case. Fusions of House and Dub or Two-Step round out the album. Pay attention to the track Take Your Time, which Terry produced in cooperation with his friend and labelmate Timewriter.

Today Terry Lee Brown Junior is one of the most happening and respected House Artists around. This is probably due to the passion and love he invests in his uncompromising productions and mix sets. His albums and mix CDs have shown the world that House music not only works on the dancefloor, but also in a comfy chair."

Deep House Music: Sid LeRock - Naked [Koze Remix] Profeshian - 734 views - 1 week ago
The Cosmic Lounge presents Deep House Music: Koze's remix of 'Naked' by Sid LeRock.

"BACKGROUND
Growing up in the northern regions of Ontario, he spent most of his youth in lots of snow. Not big on ice fishing and sci-doos like most common Northerners, the warmer seasons were his favourable moments in the great outdoors. The summer would bring a new life from hybernation where his playground was a backyard filled with deep forests. It was a constant case that his family would move from town to town where ever work can be found. His father who was a lumberjack and miner always could find work to support the family but that meant that the young Bono would have to adapt to new measures, quit often depending on his interests for music and art which made for most of his past time.

A NEW SOUND IS BORN
Eventually he moved out on his own to the most southern part of Canada to rid himself of long winters and constant driveways filled with babe seals and backyards cluttered with roaming Bears. In Windsor, Sheldon searched for a career in art design but rather, soon discovered a new fuel for passion with music. In 1994, is where he wandered into a life that is his nowproducing Techno. Introduced to new sounds that were flurishing in the Detroit scene (which was a mere 5min from where he onced lived), It was his constant fix to get an ear full of this new bread of music. From there, Shelbono moved to Toronto where the music scene was growing with international view. He moved there to seek out a degree in Music Engineering to learn more about cultivating his own sound. With a continued interest in post rock and independant rock music, he forged his old influences with the new to give life to a love child of his own creation, a style he has branded as ROCKNO. What other name would you conjure up if Mama was called Rock and Papa was Techno?. To Shelbono, Rockno is more then just his means to explore and define himself as an artist, to him, it is an actual unstable living, breathing being!. Its now out there on the loose.

TODAY FOR TOMORROW
Still Chugging, Shelbono currently lives in Cologne, Germany with at least 20 bars in walking distance. The closest one is where you might suspect to find him. With over 20 releases, 3 albums in 2004-2005 alone, the man with many faces is bounching and crashing his way around the world to bring new breath of sounds to dancefloors under the aliass of PAN/TONE (sub-static, sender/kompakt, 240 Volts), SID LeROCK (Ladomat2000, Mute) and GRINGO GRINDER (Onitor records). With steady output of releasess, He has seen one of his busiest years unfold with great success and this comes with previledges to see many new cities and meet many interesting like minded individuals. With more production under way for future releases under all names, Shelbono has been commitee to detoxing himself to better health to prepare himself again for 2006. The neighbours now find themselves lucky to be next to a producer preparing for his next album(s) in the midnight hours."

Deep House Music: Lovebirds - The Rat Profeshian - 940 views - 1 week ago
The Cosmic Lounge presents Deep House Music: 'The Rat' by Lovebirds.

"Lovebirds is the solo project of Hamburg resident Sebastian Basti Doering. Following 3 excellent singles on the much-respected Winding Road Records label, Lovebirds is big news right now. Labels such as Freerange and Buzzin Fly are hot on his heels, eager to sign his tracks.

The first Lovebirds release appeared on Trax of Interest in [year]. In 2006, having built up a repertoire of unsigned material, he sent a CD to John Buckby, label owner of Winding Road Records and a mutual friend of Vincenzo.

The Lovebirds sound is like a blast from the past with house steroids packing serious production muscle. Listening to Lovebirds is like taking trip back to the 70s and 80s - but riding in a gleaming futuristic spaceship.

The first Lovebirds single on Winding Road was the Modern Stalking EP, which came out in 2007. The EP contained tracks of mid-tempo house, each coming from a different musical angle and giving the world a taste of what he was capable of. It was received by the deep house and neo-disco community with open arms. Top-flight DJs such as Prins Thomas, Ashley Beedle and Jimpster went wild for it. Bill Brewster made the EP the Single Of The Month in iDJ magazine. Lovebirds had landed.

His second single for Winding Road was slamming vocal track Love On My Hands, which featured the voice of Holly Backler. As with the first EP, this release drew much praise from the deep house cognoscenti and put Basti ever more firmly on the map. Most recently, July 2008 sees the release of third single for Winding Road, In The Shadows. Once again, an extremely classy offering received by the tastemakers to great acclaim.

Although the Lovebirds name has burst onto the scene relatively recently, Basti is no beginner in the production game. Basti formed Knee Deep, together with old friend Toddie Freese in 1998. Knee Deep became a household name in the dance scene, leading to international DJ gigs and mountains of remix work. As Knee Deep, Basti has remixed Jamiroquai 3 times, as well as Bob Sinclair, David Morales, Brandy, and many others, even winning the prestigious best remixer category in the 2002 German Dance Awards in the process (beating Timo Maas along the way).

A few years on, Basti had achieved all he wanted to with Knee Deep, and was ready to move into more deeper, melancholy musical avenues. And so Lovebirds was born, which is now his main project. His production experience means that he is able to finish well-rounded tracks off in a matter of days, constantly building a repertoire of classy dancefloor and mellow sounds all destined to wow the world.

The process is well on its way already. The cream of the dance world has its eyes on Lovebirds. Tom Middleton is a big fan. Jimpster has signed up some tracks for a first EP on Freerange. Ben Watt is in regular contact and has signed a track for one of his recent compilations. Basti is involved in fruitful collaborations with Holly Backler, Vincenzo, and other artists. As if all this wasnt enough, Basti is gathering a collection of songs for release on his and Vincenzos new label Teardrop Records, which is destined to become an essential new addition to the house library."

Deep House Music: Prosumer & Murat Tepeli - Believe [Instrumental Mix] Profeshian - 582 views - 1 week ago
The Cosmic Lounge presents Deep House Music: the instrumental mix of 'Believe' by Prosumer & Murat Tepeli.

"Prosumer and Murat Tepeli may have been too young to hustle their way past the do hoe at Chicagos warehouse parties in the eighties, but theyre making up for lost time with a vengeance and a whole lot of love. Like the Trax and Relief stacks they clearly hold so dear, their debut album Serenity reeks of dusty synthesizers and basement gear, polished to a 21st century gleam via sleek Euro minimalism.

On the face of it, theyre an unlikely pair. Prosumer, aka Achim Brandenburg, is a former graphic designer and Hardwax record buyer (Saarbruecken branch), while Murat Tepeli is a trained musician and—naturally—a trauma surgeon. But when the two pull up to the 1200s and the 303s, their aim is singular, pure and timely: to jack your body."

Hip-Hop Music: Ratatat - Wildcat Profeshian - 4,434 views - 1 month ago
The Cosmic Lounge presents Hip-Hop Music: 'Wildcat' by Ratatat.

"Ratatat is a New York City electronic music duo: guitarist Mike Stroud and synthesizer driver and producer Evan Mast (of E*vax).

Stroud and Mast originally met as students at Skidmore College, but did not work together musically until 2001, when their project was named Cherry (later the name of the final song in their debut album). Written and recorded in the bedroom of Masts Crown Heights, Brooklyn apartment, the bands debut album Ratatat for XL Recordings was released in 2004. This album is entirely instrumental, except for excerpts of dialogue at the ends of some tracks. Ratatat has toured with bands such as Interpol, Clinic, Junior Boys, The Killers, The Faint, Daft Punk, The Shins and most recently Bjork.

Ratatat have been known to remix other artists songs, most notably on their limited 2004 release Ratatat Mixtape Vol. 1, which garnered the attention of Rolling Stone. In 2005, the band remixed a track for Swedish band Shout Out Louds and The Knife.

In August 2006, Ratatat released a second album Classics, from which the single Wildcat was taken.

In October 2006, a demo album from Ratatat entitled 9 Beats was leaked online. This set of tracks does not appear on any official discography listings. The tracks consist of short instrumental electronic musical pieces and demos for their next mixtape.
This release was followed by another remix album, Ratatat Remixes Vol 2 which was released in 2007. This album featured 14 new remixes featuring: Bun B, Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z, Slim Thug, Devin the Dude, Young Jeezy, T.I., Beanie Sigel, Pimp C, Ludacris, Young Buck, Saigon, Juvenile, Z-ro, Memphis Bleek, Kanye West and exclusive tracks from Despot and Beans.

A third album, LP3, was released on July 8th, 2008.

Both musicians have had experience with other projects, such as Masts E*vax and Strouds stage work with Ben Kweller and Floridas alternative rock band Dashboard Confessional.

The track Seventeen Years was featured in the 2008 movie Cloverfield.

The track Loud Pipes was featured in MLB 07: The Show for Playstation 2, Playstation 3, and Playstation Portable."

Ambient Music: Ambidextrous - Distant Lands Profeshian - 1,281 views - 1 month ago
The Cosmic Lounge presents Ambient Music: 'Distant Lands' by Ambidextrous.

"Nick Zavriev, better known by the name Ambidextrous, can be easily considered a veteran of Russian electronic music, having had almost half a dozen releases (including solo and group work) and participated in numerous club and festival gigs. At the start of his career, Nick preferred making IDM, appearing on various European labels, but lately has been into experimenting with dance music. Possessing encyclopedic electronic knowledge, he is able to combine the style and sound of several epochs.

Ambidextrous (from Latin- ambi- two, both; «dextrous»- right) means a person who can use his both hands. In accordance to his name, Nick manages to do several activities at once- give lectures to students, manage Shum labels creative aspect, promote indie music with friends and colleagues from the promo group avant and have two more music projects at his side.

Freakcoctail is Nicks fifth LP, not counting, just like Fellini, the two split albums he made. Ambidextrous mixed a lot of components in his cocktail: his beloved electro disco influenced by the 80s, soft tech-house, classic electro with vocoders, and even a techno-punk track, recorded with Arusyak Mirzoyan, his Jermook bandmate. There are two more tracks recorded with vocalists on the album: the opening electro-action track Le Puma and 80s-like Disco Bassline reminding of the times when disco was turning into acid house.

In contrast with his previous CDs, that Nick patiently mastered in his home studio and only then released, Freakcoctail was a concert studio album- all the material was tried out on the public. All the tracks were played at Ambidextrous concerts. Often a track was composed the night before the concert and some parts of it were played live- as a real time improvisation."

Trip-Hop Music: Boozoo Bajou - Same Sun Profeshian - 2,456 views - 1 month ago
The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Same Sun' by Boozoo Bajou.

"Boozoo Bajou is a musical duo from Germany. They are noted for their distinct blend of Cajun sounds with island rhythms. 2005 saw the release of their latest album, Dust My Broom, to much critical acclaim. The Nuremberg natives behind the music are Peter Heider and Florian Seyberth. Boozoo Bajous first album, Satta, was released in 2001. The list of Boozoo Bajou remixes for other artists include Common, Tosca, Trüby Trio, Tony Joe White.

Summer 2001: On the Nuremberg based Downbeat/Lounge/Nu Jazz Label STEREO DELUXE the group BOOZOO BAJOU released their 10 track debut album SATTA. Since 1997 the duo Peter Heider and Florian Seyberth aka BOOZOO BAJOU caught the eye of DJs and other hipsters through the release of three twelve inch records (Night over Manaus, Under my Sensi & Divers) which brought a whole lot of club-play and smaller notification all over the world. Two years later SATTA has sold more than 65.000 times all over the world excluding Bootlegs which surfaced in such strange places as Thailand. The album has turned into a classic and is described as a milestone for the downbeat scene. Those 10 tracks from SATTA can now be found on more than 120 CD compilations worldwide and the music was used on half a dozen top class tv adverts.

After bringing BOOZOO BAJOU on the road by djing all over the world in 2002 the group got lots of requests for a compilation CD of their favourite tracks by other artists. Subsequently they released JUKE JOINT a 20 piece mix compilation in spring 2003 which again got a worldwide positive feedback especially due to the wooden box which was the packaging for the limited edition. The release of THE REMIXES which was the last BOOZOO BAJOU closes the SATTA era for BOOZOO BAJOU. That CD features also recent remixes done by BOOZOO BAJOU for other artists like Tosca, Mousse T., Trüby Trio or Common & Mary J. Blige.

During 2003 BOOZOO BAJOU played a whole lot of live DJ shows (for example with Cinematic Orchestra in Berlin or at Viennas Dubclub) and did a few more remixes for Tony Joe White, Henry Manchini and Nelly Furtado. Currently they are back in their small studio in the north of Nuremberg working on tracks for the next album."
