Fun Things to do in Japan 河豚 ふぐ (Fugu Dinner) - 04 Posatrocible - 2,077 views - 4 months ago
http://www.adayinthelifeinjapa n.com (Visit here for discussions on Japan, and pre-views of future videos).

Misato, her parents and I went out for Fugu Dinner! It was a memorable event, and definitely one of the fun (if a little pricey!) things to do in Japan.

Be sure to hit the High Quality button -- it looks a heck of a lot better.

Here is a website of the FUGU restaurants in Usuki: http://www.usuki-fugu.com/

Thanks to Misato and her folks, and thanks to Jesse for his helpful suggestions (http://www.youtube.com/user/j esserai)

Nanbanjin (live) in Nakatsu June 2006. It was on the Saturday night of the Concert on the Rock (at Hachimenzan). A fuse blew, but luckily, power was restored in time to have the show!

Nanbanjin live at T.O.P.S Oita on July 29th, '06. Great show... Malcolm's last Oita city appearance, and the band's last Oita city gig until October (?).
More songs from this show to come soon.

Fun things to do in Japan カラオケ (karaoke)- 01 Posatrocible - 9,778 views - 1 year ago
In Episode 1, Joel and I take you on a "how to" for karaoke boxes in Japan.

Of all the fun things to do in Japan, karaoke has GOT to be high on the list... don't knock it till you try it! (and not karaoke BARS, but rather BOXES).

Again, this was just meant as fun for friends and family to check out our drinking habits... I mean to show them what we do for fun in Oita! Neither of us, as you will clearly see, are aiming for the karaoke circuit! lol

Enjoy your karaoke tour!

NOTE: As 1st noticed by Roxxxco, "cheers" in Japanese is written "Kanpai" (in romanji), not "Kunpai" as it's written in the video. Thanks for the catch Rox!

Fun things to do in Japan 回転寿司 (kaiten zushi)- 02 Posatrocible - 10,248 views - 1 year ago
http://blueblankyproductions.c om/?p=94 Look here for the version WITH sound (Ween's Voodoo Lady removed). In Episode 2, Misato and I take a trip to Sushi Meijin, a kaiten zushi 回転寿司 (conveyor belt sushi) restaurant in Kyushu.

Of all the "cliche", fun things to do in Japan, this has to be tops. In Oita where there is a plentitude of cheap, fresh fish, these sushiyas offer great sushi at a great price. I have heard that 100 yen sushi shops in bigger cities aren't nearly as tasty, but I've never tried.

Enjoy your kaiten zushi tour!

(Note: While episode 1 was mostly drinking, and episode 2 is mostly eating, episode 3 will combine both at one of Japan's most famous exports, the Izakaya.)

Fun things to do in Japan 居酒屋 (izakaya) - 03 Posatrocible - 13,047 views - 1 year ago
In episode 3, Matt and Joel and friends take you deep inside of the Japanese Izakaya (居酒屋) experience. The Izakaya is a traditional Japanese restaurant based around eating and drinking cheaply with friends.

Much nuttiness ensues as the beer takes effect! But hopefully you can get a good idea of what a true Japanese Izakaya is like.

As with most of my videos, this is shot in Oita, Japan. We went to an Izakaya called Kamifusen (paper balloon 紙風船). Some of the food seen in the video is from another Izakaya that I love: Seishunjyunnjyoumonogatari (青春純情物語). If you get to Oita/Beppu sometime, please definitely go and get the kari kari (crispy) chicken.

Thanks again to all those appearing in the video!

A day in the life in Japan (Winter) Posatrocible - 141,485 views - 2 years ago
http://www.blueblankyproductio ns.com This was a video I shot and put together to show to the fam and friends a few years back illustrating an average day teaching English in Japan.

It all takes place in the city of Oita, about a 90 minute flight south west of Tokyo, on Kyushu island.

This is LONG, about 37 minutes, but will show what teaching English overseas, particularly in Japan, is like.

Lots of folks have asked how one can get over to Japan to teach English. One fantastic way(with a B.A. of any variety) is JET: http://www.jetprogramme.org/

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to message me: http://www.adayinthelifeinJapa n.com

A Day in the Life in Japan 2 (Summer) Posatrocible - 26,324 views - 2 years ago
This was another video that I produced for my family and friends a couple years ago. I wanted it to show the heat of summer in Oita (but the sweat on the bed is FAKE... just so you know). I wanted it to be different from the winter video, so I never talked directly into the camera in this version.

The effect was that the video was a lot less "friendly". So, in this re-edited version, I shorted the video considerably (down to only 16 minutes) and added some green screen shots of me from 2007 answering some of the questions about Japan that I received.

Thus the video comes out a bit eclectic... but hopefully helpful for prospective English teachers heading to Japan.

Thanks to all those that asked questions about teaching in Japan! Technomewmew was the winner with over 40 questions in one message.

hey matt! i love to watch you videos, there very exciting. I wish to visit Japan someday! How are Japanese people reacting to N Korea's current actions? Also, how does it feel to live in Japan, does it feel like a Canadian living in Japan or do you feel "home", like its where you belong? I only ask because i dont feel like i belong where i am.
