I know his post is 3 months old - but I think it needs to be noticed that Sochmo, who recommends buying your reptiles thru breeders and not PETCO.. is himself a breeder ... I've never seen any issues at PETCO, granted, there is bound to be a sick animal here and there - but whenever they're noticed (as they do regular animal checks) they're moved into a 'wellness room' where they receive proper care until they are on their own two...er, four feet again!

Hey sochmo, wake up! PETCO handles animals alot better than Petsmart-just look at the cages! Petsmart does not have ventilated enclosures for their birds nor chinchillas! Thats why when I bought a chinchilla I bought one that didn't have skin infections from a damp environment and the only place that sells really healthy chinchillas is PETCO! I go to the one in Fairfax, VA at Greenbriar Shopping Ctr. and the staff there are really helpful in telling me all kinds of information on the animals unlike the sales-oriented jackoffs at Petsmart. You should do your homework before making such an accusation, sochmo!

Hi Everyone. i think you should all open your eyes past what petco tells you and read some stories from other people. many petco animals (especially reptiles) are kept in filthy, overcrowded environments, often without adequate shelter, food, water, or mental stimulus for their species. most petco managers and employees prefer to leave sick or injured animals to suffer and die because they cannot, or are to lazy to house them in a quarunteen enclosure. PLEASE! youtubers. please please buy your pets from local breeders, and purchase more supplies from your local petstores who are being put out of buisness by petco! thanks- alex

PETCO is one of the best companies I have ever seen as far as animal care goes. The health of the animals is extremely important to them, now whether there is 1 store with incompetent people who dont understand that a reptile needs to be at 85 degrees to survive is another story, but in the end, the company as a whole knows exactly how to care for an animal.
