If you attended the Local meetings, you would know how dues are spent. All finances are out in the open. I am angered by the comment about money being stolen because I was a trustee for 3 years. Everything is above board. The yearly federal report (the LM-2) is available publicly on the Department of Labor website in the ESA agency section. Once there, click on Reports-Labor Organizations. You can search for the Local's report and see the details of their Assets, Liabilities, Loans, etc.

You two have some strong views so I hope you continue to stay in communication and attend the meetings - to listen, learn, and to contribute.

Probably about as much of your dues money (and once mine too) as they spent in '99 or '00 on that jerk who was supposedly an "expert" on union-busters like Phillips Kimball.
I'm sure a phony chameleon like Soglin don't come cheap either! Of course, for some reason, Local 39 never had any money to spend on sending cases to arbitration! |

so now it's ok to spend money on a dumb billboard and on 2 consultants Soglin and Andrews? What are they costing?

Curmudgeon,
Actually this is one of Local 39's wiser expenses! Some years ago they were paying some jerk consultant about $10,000/mo. for several mos. to "fight" Phillips Kimball. A heck of a lot of good it did. In addition, large sums of union funds have been stolen over the years, and the Local staff has shown little initiative to investigate these thefts. All this while the union repeatedly claimed that it would be too expensive to bring many cases (including mine) to arbitration! |

I saw the billboard from the union. Not a bad picture but what did that cost the membership? I heard over $4,000. What a waste of members dues.

No, unfortunately I can't attend meetings because I'm no longer a member of the "union", as a result of being discharged by Phillips T. Kimball, and having the pseudo-"union" refuse to initiate even a first-step grievance.
Although the union did virtually nothing for me, the asshole sargeant-at-arms did make sure that I stopped coming to meetings a few months after my discharge, due to the fact that I was thus no longer a member.
No, I haven't much respect for CUNA Mutual, but neither am a particularly great fan of an incompetent joke such as Local 39!
