This is a little video I put together from a recent scouting trip. It's not great quality (I just sort of haphazardly shot some scenes in between my note-taking), but it's from the Bull run watershed, which has an almost mythical status among Portlanders. For the most part, the public is restricted from entering the Bull Run in order to preserve the region's exceptional water purity. We were able to visit, accompanied by Portland Water Bureau Staff of course, in order to survey the scene for an upcoming story. In one of the scenes you can see one of the only remaining remnants of Portland's original wooden water pipe...basically just a log with a bore hole drilled through it. Portland's water used to travel through these!

Sonar data from the Army Corps of Engineers paints a detailed picture of the former Celilo Falls at the bottom of the Columbia River. Oregon Public Broadcasting used data from the Corps to render these animations. Red areas are 40 feet underwater. Blue & green areas can be 60 feet or deeper.
The high wide angle reflects an 'aerial' view from the Oregon shore with the classic horseshoe falls in green on the right. The first flyover cruises upstream ending at horseshoe falls. The cliffs where fishing scaffolds hung appear on the left at 48 seconds in. That is followed by a quick wide reveal of the signature falls and then a return flyover heading downstream where contours in the sand are visible. At 1:28 the last clip provides another wide slow pan from upstream to downstream with the horseshoe falls most prominent in the center.

The Pacific Northwest may not have much NASCAR, but it's the home of NEDRA: The National Electric Drag Racing Association. Come out to the drag strip at the Portland International Raceway for some racing gone green - without a drop of gas. http://www.opb.org/ofg/
