I grew up in Buffalo, New York. It was tough but it has made me who I am today. In 1959, I came to Hawaii to pursue a graduate degree and PhD at University of Hawaii. I was a faculty member at the University of Hawaii before beginning my career in public service. Before I was elected to Congress, I served as a Hawaii State Representative, Hawaii State Senator, and Honolulu City Council member. I love Hawaii. Hawaii is my home. And that is why I am running for Governor of Hawaii in 2010
