Another audience with Dame Shirley Bassey. Recorded 30th. October 2005. Part 3.
Lyrics Big spender:
The minute you walked in the joint I could see you were a man of distinction, a real big spender Good looking, so refined Say, wouldn't you like to know what's going on in my mind? So let me get right to the point I don't pop my cork for every man I see Hey big spender! Spend a little time with me
Wouldn't you like to have fun, fun, fun? How's about a few laughs, laughs? I could show you a good time Let me show you a good time
The minute you walked in the joint I could see you were a man of distinction, a real big spender Good looking, so refined Say, wouldn't you like to know what's going on in my mind? So let me get right to the point I don't pop my cork for every man I see Hey big spender! Hey big spender! Hey big spender! Spend a little time with me Yes

Lyrics You needed me:
I cried a tear You wiped it dry I was confused You cleared my mind I sold my soul You bought it back for me And held me up and gave me dignity Somehow you needed me.
You gave me strength To stand alone again To face the world Out on my own again You put me high upon a pedestal So high that I could almost see eternity You needed me You needed me
And I can't believe it's you I can't believe it's true I needed you and you were there And I'll never leave, why should I leave I'd be a fool 'Cause I've finally found someone who really cares
You held my hand When it was cold When I was lost You took me home You gave me hope When I was at the end And turned my lies Back into truth again You even called me friend
You needed me You needed me

Another audience with Dame Shirley Bassey. Recorded 30th. October 2005. Part 5.
Moonraker Music written by John Barry (Jonathan Barry Prendergrast) and lyrics by Hal David.
Recorded: April, 1979 Released: on United Artists soundtrack album: August 8, 1979, UA-LA971-I on United Artists singles: UK: June, 1979, UP 602 US: June 25, 1979, UA-X1308-Y Charted: Album US: #159, 1979
Written as the theme for the James Bond movie "Moonraker" in 1979. It was released on a single, and also on the soundtrack LP. The song did not chart and the soundtrack LP only reached position 159 on the LP charts. This was the third official James Bond recording for Shirley Bassey and her last recording for the United Artists label. Shirley Bassey repeatedly said that she hated "Moonraker" and only did it as a favour to John Barry.
The original soundtrack album contained two versions: the "Main Title" which was playing in the beginning of the film, and an up-tempo "End Title" which is from after the film during the credits.
The soundtrack album is available on CD digitally remastered. The Main Title is also available on the collection Bassey - The EMI/UA Years 1959 - 1979, and was on the Reader's Digest collection Shirley Bassey - This Is My Life, and is on many James Bond and John Barry collections. Another recording has been released 1992 on the Bassey Sings Bond album.
It was planned to release a remix of the original recording by Superfunk in 2000 on The Remix Album...Diamonds Are Forever and the remix had even been released on some promotional copies of the CD, but paradoxically the remix is not on the final UK release, but it is on the releases of other countries.
Directed by Gilbert and written by Chris Wood, one of "Moonraker" 's bright spots is the presence of the beautiful French actress Corinne Clery in the small but memorable role of Drax associate Corinne Dufour. John Barry, Shirley Bassey and Hal David all came back to add some musical gusto to the proceedings.
It has been said that in a radio interview Shirley Bassey did in New York. She said that she walked out of the premiere because the sound on the song was so low, and she thought it should be louder. The interviewer asked her what she thought of Roger Moore, she said: "Wet! Wet! Wet!"
It has also been said that the job to write and record the song for this Bond movie was originally offered to Kate Bush, but she turned it down and so John Barry got the job again.
It has also been suggested that this song was originally written for Dionne Warwick, but she could not sing it, and then John Barry bumped into Shirley in an L.A. hotel and asked if Shirley could sing the song and she did, but it has also been suggested that Hal David and Dionne Warwick had gone their separate ways some years before.
Finally, it has been suggested that this song was intended for Johnny Mathis but he was sick and had to drop out.
A James Bond fan wrote: Shirley Bassey sings the title track as well as ever, and it has a very haunting, mellow feel to it in comparison to previous efforts. Unfortunately the song didn't chart which is a shame as it suits the movie's open feel perfectly. The movie had been nominated for an Academy Award for the best visual effects.
Lyrics
Where are you? Why do you hide? Where is that moonlight trail that leads to your side? Just like the Moonraker goes in search of his dream of gold I search for love, for someone to have and hold I've seen your smile in a thousand dreams Felt your touch and it always seems You love me You love me Where are you? When will we meet? Take my unfinished life and make it complete Just like the Moonraker knows his dream will come true someday I know that you are only a kiss away I've seen your smile in a thousand dreams Felt your touch and it always seems You love me You love me

Lyrics Maybe this time (From 'Cabaret'):
Maybe this time, I'll be lucky Maybe this time, he'll stay Maybe this time For the first time Love won't hurry away
He will hold me fast I'll be home at last Not a loser anymore Like the last time And the time before
Everybody loves a winner So nobody loved me; 'Lady Peaceful,' 'Lady Happy,' That's what I long to be All the odds are in my favor Something's bound to begin It's bound to happen, happen sometime Maybe this time I'll win.
Mini Biography Liza Minelli: Liza Minnelli was born on March 12, 1946, the daughter of Judy Garland and movie director Vincente Minnelli. She was practically raised at MGM studios while her parents worked long hours there and she made her film debut at fourteen months of age in the movie In the Good Old Summertime (1949). Her parents divorced in 1951 and, in 1952, her mother married Sidney Luft, with sister Lorna Luft and brother Joey Luft subsequently being born. Her father, Vincente Minnelli, later married Georgette Magnani, mother of her step-sister Christiana Nina Minnelli.
At sixteen, Liza was on her own in New York City, struggling to begin her career in show business. Her first recognition came for the play "Best Foot Forward" which ran for seven months in 1963. A year later, Judy invited Liza to appear with her for a show at the London Paladium. This show sold out immediately and a second night was added to it. Liza's performance in London was a huge turning point in both her career and her relationship with her mother. The audience absolutely loved Liza and Judy realized that Liza was now an adult with her own career. It was at the Paladium that Liza met her first husband, Peter Allen, a friend of Judy's.
Liza won a Tony award at age nineteen and was nominated for her first Academy Award at age twenty-three for the role of Pookie Adams in The Sterile Cuckoo (1969). Other dramatic roles followed and, in 1972, she won an Oscar for her performance as Sally Bowles in the movie Cabaret (1972). The seventies were a busy time for Liza. She worked steadily in film, stage and music. She and good friend Halston were regulars at Studio 54, the trendiest disco club in the world. Marriages to filmmaker Jack Haley Jr. and Mark Gero, a sculptor who earned his living in the theater followed. Each marriage ended in divorce.
Over the past years, her career has leaned more towards stage performances and she has a long list of musical albums which she continues to add to. She teamed with Frank Sinatra in his "Duets" CD and Sammy Davis Jr. joined them for a series of concerts and TV shows which were extremely well-received.
She has had to deal with tabloid stories of drug abuse and ill-health and has had a number of high profile stays at drug-rehabilitation clinics. Her hectic schedule may have slowed down in recent years, but she still has a large following of immensely loyal fans who continue to cheer her on.

Another audience with Dame Shirley Bassey. Recorded 30th. October 2005. Part 2.
Lyrics The living tree:
Let me breathe Cause I'm drowning in your shadow Let me leave Respect me do not follow me believe I can make my own tomorrow Let me breathe Does it make You feel good cause you own me Does it take Your puppet strings to hold me How I ache As you're trying to control me Let me breathe
Let me dance 'till my shoes cry Let me laugh let me be Let me dance Let me choose my life Let me climb the living tree
Picture this When you wake up in the morning And I kiss Your sorry ass goodbye What will I miss There's nothing I can think of as I leave
Let me dance 'till my shoes cry Let me laugh let me be Let me dance Let me choose my life Let me climb the living tree.
Lyrics The lady is a tramp:
I've wined and dined on mulligan stew And never wished for turkey I've hitched and hiked and drifted to From Maine to Alberquque Alas I missed the beaux arts ball And what is twice as sad I was never at a party Where they honoured Noel Coward His social circles move to fast for me My hobohemia is the place to be I get too hungry for dinner at eight I love the theatre but never come late I never bother with people I hate That's why this lady is a tramp
I don't like crap games with barons and earls Won't go to Harlem in ermine and pearls Won't dish the dirt with the rest of those girls That's why this lady is a tramp.
I like the free fresh wind in my hair Life without care I'm broke... that's oke Hate California, it's cold and it's damp That's why this lady is a tramp
I like the free fresh wind in my hair Life without care I'm broke... that's oke Hate California, it's cold and it's damp That's why this lady is a tramp.
And I love it Yes, I'm a tramp, and I love it And I wish that you were coming my way yeah I wish that you were coming my way yeah I wish that you wre coming my way Yes, I'm a lady But a tramp

Never the Bride's Nikki Lamborn and Catherine Feeney first met on stage at a jam session in a London pub.
Instant rapport and a similar taste in music and direction, lead to more jamming before Nikki from Bristol and Catherine, better known as Been, from Glasgow, formed a song writing collaboration.
Nikki commuted to write, gig and busk in Covent Garden. Never the Bride was born and the duo built up a core following around the capital.
Their live reputation went from strength to strength and big support slots followed from The Who, ZZ TOP and The Pretenders. After successfully supporting The Who, a personal call from Roger Daltrey lead to Nikki and Been joining Daltrey, Alice Cooper, Paul Rodgers, Peter Frampton and a few more rock gods on The British Rock Symphony Tour. The band toured the UK, Europe and Australia with the Orchestra, making a huge impression with their interpretation of Led Zeppelin's Kashmir and Stairway to Heaven.
Their first performance at The Royal Albert Hall is a key moment in Nikki and Beens' lives. Roger held up both their arms and said to the audience who were going crazy, "What d'ya reckon then? Nikki Lamborn has the best female rock voice since Janis Joplin and I know what I'm talking about, I knew Janis."
"After The Rock Symphony Tour ended in Australia, we decided to stay awhile and write some songs," explains Been. "We did a Thelma and Louise, rented a car and drove across the country drinking tequila in small bottles.
"The money had run out by the time we reached Sydney, but luckily it was around the time of The Olympics and there were lots of people to entertain. Our busking skills paid for the song-writing trip and some of those songs are on our latest album, Surprise!"
Nikki's powerful presence and strong vocals has been described as Tina Turner and Robert Plant rolled into one. Her incredible voice came under the spotlight while coaching a Cambridge choir girl in the ways of rock for Channel 4's Faking It series.
Been, keyboard player and occasional guitarist, is the main composer behind the songs that together with Nikki's voice, make Never the Bride unique.
Other band members include Murray Gould on guitar, who has played with Elton John, Dido and Faithless, and Greg Harwood on bass, who has played with every one from Ronan Keating to James Brown. Drummer John Tonks repertoire includes Steve Winwood and the Sugarbabes.
As a response to their growing fanbase worldwide, the band have recorded a DVD rockumentary, entitled For Richer For Poorer, highlighting life for a rock band on the road both at home and abroad.
