As one of its first actions of the 2009 legislative session, the New York State Senate has created a bipartisan panel to consider and recommend long-term reforms to the Senate's rules and administration practices. The broad goal is to help restore New Yorkers' confidence in the legislative process.
The Temporary Senate Committee on Rules and Administration Reform has been charged with undertaking a thorough review of the how the Senate conducts its business, and with making recommendations to increase openness, fairness and accountability, and a more participatory and transparent legislative process.
The Temporary Committee has been directed to make its recommendations no later than April 13, 2009.
