Voters representing dozens of Unions gather on Capitol Hill to send a clear message -- America needs the United States Senate to pass the Teachers and First Responders Back to Work Act. The assembled crowd heard from Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, Cherine Akbari (a laid-off NEA member) and Senators Harry Reid (NV), Robert Menendez (NJ), Charles Schumer (NY), Debbie Stabenow (MI), Richard Durbin (IL) and Tom Harkin (IA).
NEA President Dennis Van Roekel and 9 NEA member were at the White House on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 to meet with President Obama and to strategize on how to pass the American Jobs Act. The AJA would save the jobs of some 400,000 public school employees nationwide.
NEA's 2011 Human and Civil Rights Awards honor great leaders from across the country and their great contributions. This year NEA presented their Lifetime Acheivement Award to Rev. Dr. Joseph Lowery. The awards gala kicks off NEA's annual Representative Assembly which was held in Chicago, IL.
