The Turtle Island Project provides venues for the voices of First Nations people to be heard. Due to racism by Euro-Americans, First Nations people are being silenced and robbed of their own freedom of speech.
As a result, much of the Native American experience is filtered through the lenses of a foreign culture that doesn't have the right and lacks the ability to speak to the most fundamental realities of Native experience.
Perhaps this problem is best expressed by the famous Native American author, Vine Deloria Jr. in the title of his fascinating book: "We talk, you listen."
It is our belief, that such a dialogue can contribute to the betterment of both communities and is a conversation that is long overdue.
