SA is easily the hardest in the series for me. It's true that you only start with 2 lives but not dying during bosses and midbosses gives you a lot more vitality than in the other games. Power is very easily recovered during stages by grazing, so bomb whenever possible and even more than that.

So I've played Subterranean Animism and......I'm wonder kind of stuff was ZUN on while making this game(except for alcohol)
Okay, tried Normal....lost my first life before the first midboss and had to continue at beginning of stage 2.
Stage 3 busts my ass pretty much.

Okay, time to go to Easy....not that hard(read:2 continues) until I got to Orin.
Especially the last spell sucks, as it is EASY and I couldn't figure out how to escape that crap.
So I've spammed bombs, and.....same stuff happened as Utsuho did to you. Lost last life after she died to something I didn't even see.
Okay, time to go again through the awesomely long levels(previous had them shorter tbh)
The final boss took only 1 continue.

Makes me wonder how the hell do you 1cc this(extremely cheesy patterns+only 2 lives) and what kind of unfairness awaits on Hard, Lunatic and Extra.

I don't have so much trouble with Kaguya in IN... But overall, you're far better at the game than I am. I lose most of my lives in stages 4 and 5. Try Extra mode.
