Wayne Rooney's Street Striker (ep 3, series 1 finale) MikeChristie - 31,887 views - 7 months ago
I had the pleasure of directing this series in the late summer of 2008, for my great friends at Plum Pictures. They were keen to emulate the feel of Jump Britain in style, and I think of the three programmes this is my favourite: my favourite music, favourite location, Wayne, Andy and Sue were fully into their stride, and of course five great finalists. Here's some blurb:

"Wayne Rooney’s search for the country’s best, young, all-round, raw street football talent reaches its climax. The final of this uniquely street talent competition takes place in a fitting setting, a world away from the X Factor stage or the Apprentice boardroom: the top three floors of a multi-storey car park in Stockport. Wayne - assisted by his competition sidekicks Andy Ansah and Sue Smith - have set two final, evil street football challenges in the car park, and there are some added twists along the way. The stakes are high; Wayne must decide which of the nervous, final five contestants -€“ Henry, Ahsan, Travis, Jordan and Mohamed - is the rightful winner of the title Wayne Rooney'€™s Street Striker."

Jump London parkour seq, orig. C4 music. Director: Mike Christie. MikeChristie - 1,795 views - 8 months ago
I'm not sure this gets seen very often so I thought I'd post it. This is the original action sequence featured in the TV version of Jump London (part 3 of the 4 part programme).

While the visuals are the same as the widely available DVD version, this was the soundtrack that accompanied the original film aired on Channel 4 in 2003, and features the original music. This wasn't used on the DVD due to the cost of clearances, and the music was replaced for the DVD and international versions by the marvellous Ian Masterson.

The original tracklisting is:

Ordinary Day by Bent (from The Everlasting Blink) - Somerset House

Jump Main Theme by Ian Masterson - The Mall, Albert Hall

Jumping by Ian Masterson - HMS Belfast, Redjacket

Noctuary by Bonobo (from Dial M for Monkey) - City of London School, Globe

London by Pet Shop Boys / Felix da Housecat (from Disco 3) - Globe, Big Ben shots

Break My Head by Thomas Beach - Old County Hall, Saatchi, Soho

What Your Soul Sings by Massive Attack (from 100th Window) - National Theatre, Tate Modern

Suede at Clapham Grand: Derek Jarman pre-show speech MikeChristie - 825 views - 1 year ago
Since uploading the Suede and Derek Jarman concert recently, I've now found the VHS of the full length concert, including this: part of Derek's speech before the concert. I've uploaded it as a companion to the concert (separate clip).

I worked with Derek on a variety of projects including this concert between meeting him in 1991 and his death, shortly after this event, early in 1994. A true artist, an inspiration and much missed friend.

Around The World in 80 Raves (promo) MikeChristie - 1,543 views - 1 year ago
I was credited as Producer on this mad 2001 Channel 4 series, though in reality I was the edit director, spending months working through 400 hours of footage to format and style the show. Turned out to be quite a laugh.

This is a series promo I cut for a launch event.

Suede (& Neil Tennant) live 1996 - director: Mike Christie MikeChristie - 13,215 views - 1 year ago
I directed this concert film of the last of three nights at London's Roundhouse, marking the end of a world tour. It took place December 15th, 1996 . From a production point of view, it wasn't a major number - the concert would be used for promo purposes only - and I had only a few cameras, but I really like the film.

There's 4 songs here, the first two feature a very special guest. Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys) joined Brett to duet 'Saturday Night' and sing a uniquely Suede arrangement of the PSB classic 'Rent'.

The band continue as a five piece to perform a personal favourite of mine 'Europe Is Our Playground' and the mega hit 'Beautiful Ones'.

Apologies: similarly to the Clapham Grand concert, it's digitised from an old VHS so it's not brilliant quality, but it's still good enough to enjoy!

UK director of TV, documentaries and ads including - amongst other things - Jump London and Jump Britain.
About Me: I'm Mike Christie, a UK based writer and director of TV documentaries, features and the occasional commercial. I'm one of the founding partners of a UK production company called Carbon Media Limited.

I spent the 90s working mostly in the music and film industry and then started working in documentaries in 1998, so the clips here are - like my back catalogue - pretty eclectic.

There was a really good documentary a while back on 4OD about Derek Jarman narrated by Tilda Swinton. I think it was called Remembering Derek. 4OD have taken it down now, but I'm wondering if you or anyone you know has a copy or if there is anywhere I can get it from?
