Mass debater, militant atheist and secularist.
About Me:
Whilst being an atheist since 1974 it was only when I got to see the antics of believers on the internet that I decided that something has to be done. The cosy view that truth will always win because it is the truth needs to be challenged. It is complacent. People get far more attached to comfortable well crafted lies than they ever get to the simple truth. Religion is dangerous, it should be confronted and not given a free ride.
There can be no freedom without freedom of thought and religion attacks this freedom head on.
I have described myself in the past as an atheist missionary. This was a joke that went over the heads of religious believers. Atheism is not a religion: it is a stance not to have a religion. Saving people from the mind slavery of religion is a political act and a humanitarian duty. Atheist and secular activism is not religious activity, it is political action required because religious people feel no shame in shoving their religious beliefs into everything they come across.
I have in the past been directly campaigning on the streets, that is electioneering rather than marching like a loser. I have campaigned in England, Wales and Scotland plus I went to America for three months in an effort to stop Ronald Reagan getting re-elected. Whilst I generally detest lying I thought it better to say I was just going for a holiday when I was asked whether I sought the overthrow of the government of the United States of America, it just seemed a bit easier to give the answer he wanted to hear rather than to say it was the sole purpose of my visit.
I was arrested for chaining myself to the railings outside the Houses of Parliament in 1983. Today all my campaigning is done online.
I have run my own website http://mwillett.org/ since August 1999, full of thought-provoking material plus a debate forum which has achieved an excellent standard of debate, with over a quarter of a million high quality postings over the last few years. Check it out. http://mwillett.org/Debate/
Some people think it is worth commenting on my age or appearance. Trying to make the world a better place is not only for the young, the beautiful and the empty-headed. Neither is YouTube.
