Also, given the subject matter of the song, I must rant for a short while, please excuse this.

Why is Susan Atkins still in jail?

See, to me, prison should not be some "punishment" or whatever self-serving form of "justice" [note the quotes] some people have. It's about [or should be about, in my opinion]...
a) rehabilitating people
and
b) keeping the rest of the world safe from whomever is inside.

When the person in question is rehabilitated, no longer a threat to society, or both [as Susan Atkins is] he/she should be set free. In my humble opinion, which doesn't really matter much, as I should know by now.

Susan Atkins has a sparkling prison record. She admits that she was wrong and expresses serious regret for it.

If you're one of those people who disregards this, fine, now look at this:

She's dying. She has a brain tumor and only has a limited amount of time left to live. She's paralyzed over 85% of her body and is confined to bed.

How can this woman possibly be a threat to anyone anymore?!

She has been denied what is known as "compassionate release" numerous times now - doesn't this imply that the courts are not compassionate? That's what we need - compassion. Honestly.

I'm sorry, I just needed to get that off my chest. It's really been bothering me that we're going to let this woman die in jail when the arguments for her still being in prison are pretty much limited to "Well, she started it!" Yes, I know she committed a crime and that the crime was wrong - and, quite frankly, sickening. But all this has become now is some form societal revenge - have we really not risen above this kind of thing yet?

I don't care how hackneyed and cliché this thing I'm about to say is going to sound, because it's true:
An eye for an eye makes the world go blind.
