Unless we adopt a cruelty free vegan diet and lifestyle and work toward the end of the exploitation of non-human animals, and unless we continuously look within to dismantle our own prejudices and hatred, we can not honestly consider ourselves truly interested in peace, compassion, non-violence or environmental protection.
Exploitation of *any* sentient being or the destruction of the environment is unacceptable and an insanity. Every injustice, every violence, effects us all adversely on an individual level whether we realise or not. For thousands of years till now, non-human animals have been the most exploited by far. Every non-violent effort possible should be made to end this exploitation.
True and lasting peace will only come through non-violent action, inner change, education & through the cessation of exploitation of *all* sentient beings, human and non-human.
Non-human animals need all our help. Approx 59 billion non-human animals suffer unbearable cruelty, torture and are killed each year.
Governments have a tendency to follow the public voice. There are few real "leaders" in government and even fewer who are interested in justice for all.
Ways to bring change:
*Adopt a cruelty free compassionate diet & lifestyle by becoming vegan.
*Do not support leaders or large multinational corporations which support the exploitation of non-human animals. 98% of business directly or indirectly allow torturing and / or killing animals for their products. Economic pressure on these companies by not purchasing or by boycotting their products is effective. Creatively educating the public, protesting, lobbying & non-violent action is vital.
The current daily non-human animal exploitation and abuse of billions of non-humans everywhere occurs with the knowledge of governments.
Education is vital in motivating others. Animal exploiter's best weapon is the ignorance and apathy of the public.
Please note all international governments, no matter what side of the political fence, have a long way to go to an equitable society for humans and non-humans. No government has any animal rights record to speak of, and a very poor "animal welfare" record.
We tend to focus on conservative parties because sadly they always protect the profits of corporations over the rights of non-humans and humans every time. Sadly many US politicians tend to support hunting and are afraid to speak out against the NRA.
