"You're all musicians, one of you must know a drummer!?" slurred a search-weary guitarist, sat with a group of trainee music teachers he'd met a few drinks earlier. "I'll do it" was the flippant response from the other end of the table. And thus the new era of The Lieutenant's Mistress began.

This Brighton based 4 piece's sound draws influence from traditional indie music. Taking cues from groups like The Smiths, The Shins, Doves, The Cribs and Modest Mouse but adding elements of folk, rock and even krautrock, The Lieutenant's Mistress have become as well known for the quality of their songs as for their lively stage performances.

The group, formed in early 2007 by Andrew Motley, Matt Geary and Louis May, met at secondary school and have remained close friends ever since. The final member, beer garden recruit Simon "Box" Hudson, is the perfect compliment to the group in terms of personality and versatility. Razor sharp timings, harmony vocals and the use of the trumpet to enhance the traditional vocal, guitar, bass and drums arrangement adds a dimension that separates them from ordinary indie bands.

Since forming, the band have released a self-titled EP through i-Tunes, and are preparing for the release of their follow-up, The WIRED EP, in June 2009. They have received BBC Radio airplay and been interviewed on Juice 107. Live they have toured the Northwest of England; played festivals in Brighton, Birmingham and the Sussex Countryside; and supported Frightened Rabbit, Gravenhurst and Thao with the Get Down, Stay Down.
