DeMar DeRozan (born August 7, 1989 in Compton, California) is an American professional basketball player in the NBA who plays for the Toronto Raptors. DeRozan played college basketball at USC for the Trojans. A swingman at 2.01 metres (6 ft 7 in) and 100 kilograms (220 lb), DeRozan was drafted ninth overall by the Toronto Raptors in the 2009 NBA Draft.
High school
DeRozan attended Compton High School and was ranked as one of the top college recruits in the nation from the class of 2008. He was ranked #3 in the nation by Rivals.com and #6 by Scout.com.[1]
He played on the varsity basketball team for all four years of high school. As a senior averaging 29.2 ppg and 7.9 rpg,[2] DeRozan led Compton High School to a 26-6 record, a Moore League title and the CIF Division IAA Southern Section quarter-finals. DeRozan was a member of the 2008 McDonald's All-American Team, and also won the 2008 McDonald's All-American game dunk contest.[3] He was also invited to play in the 2008 Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden, where he scored 17 points.[4]

In November 2007 DeRozan signed a letter of intent to play basketball at USC. He chose USC over Arizona State and North Carolina. He joined his friend, musician-actor-basketball player Romeo Miller.[5]
In his first game for the Trojans, DeRozan scored a team-high 21 points with seven rebounds in an exhibition game against Azusa Pacific; a 85-64 victory at the Galen Center.[6]
DeRozan had 14 points in his first career regular season game in a win over UC Irvine.[7] He grabbed 12 rebounds in the Pac-10 Conference opener in which USC defeated Oregon, 83-62, on January 2, 2009,[8] and scored a career-high 22 points in a 61-49 win over Arizona State on January 15.[9]

On April 8, 2009, DeRozan announced he would enter the 2009 NBA Draft and forego his final three years of eligiblilty at USC.[10] On June 25, 2009 DeRozan was selected ninth overall by the Toronto Raptors in the 2009 NBA Draft.
