Joe Hockey represents the electorate of North Sydney in the Australian Parliament and is the Shadow Treasurer.

He was first elected in 1996 at the age of 30. Less than three years later Joe was made a minister - one of the youngest in Australia's history. He's served in a number of ministries since then: Financial Services, Tourism and Small Business, Human Services and Employment and Workplace Relations.

Joe was born in North Sydney. His father was born in Bethlehem (before later emigrating to Australia) and his mum in Chatswood. When he was growing up his family was working hard running a small business, first a deli in Chatswood and later a real estate agency in Naremburn.

A student at St Aloysius' College, Joe then went on to get Arts and Law degrees from Sydney Uni, where he was also elected President of the SRC. He was also President of the NSW Young Liberal Movement.

Before entering Parliament Joe worked as a lawyer for a major Australian law firm and then as the Director of Policy to the Premier of NSW.

He lives in Hunters Hill with his wife Melissa and three children Xavier, Adelaide and Ignatius.
