Hold tight as singer and award-winning songwriter Shaznay Lewis fronts one of the hottest collaborations of 2008 so far. Daddy O is a slice of bassline and garage heaven from the ultimate 'Old School Garage Meisters' WIDEBOYS - currently dominating the UK and US club charts with their remixing prowess.
Platinum-selling producers and remixers the WIDEBOYS (Edward Craig & Jim Sullivan) have been working together since 1996. At the time Jim had his own recording studio and met Eddie working in his own record store. The boys first breakthrough was with the Artful Dodger and Craig David classic Woman Trouble in the Summer of 2000. They subsequently won Best Newcomers at the 2000 UK Garage Awards. The guys are probably best known for their 2001 hit Sambuca (featuring Dennis G) and producing the Liberty X Top 5 debut Thinking It Over. The album, of the same name, went on to sell over one million copies worldwide. WIDEBOYS have most recently hit the #1 spot on the UK club charts with remixes of T2's Heartbroken and Rihanna's Don't Stop The Music. The unstoppable-duo have also sprinkled their magic over recent hits from Taio Cruz, Snoop Dogg, Sugababes, Britney Spears and David Jordan's forthcoming single Move On.
Shaznay (who in 2001 won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Songwriting) proudly stands as one quarter of the phenomenally successful band All Saints. While the girls are busy cooking up new delights in the studio, Shaznay just couldn't resist Daddy O all for herself! It's not the first time the 32-year-old star has ventured out on her own. Her solo album Open, released in 2004, spawned the inspirational Top 10 smash hit Never Felt Like This Before and the infectious and beautiful single You.
For as long as she can remember, Shaznay's life has revolved around making music. By the age of 8, she was harmonising with her mum's Bob Marley records and by 12 she was recording radio shows on her first cassette player. A year later, Shaznay started songwriting and by 18 she was jamming with long-term friend Melanie Blatt. The rest is of course history, but as a member of All Saints she has scored nine Top 10 singles (including five #1's) across three multi-platinum selling albums. Timeless classics include Never Ever, Pure Shores, Under The Bridge, Bootie CalI, and Rock Steady. Of course, this isn't the first time WIDEBOYS have collaborated with Shaznay. The boys transformed All Saint tunes I Know Where It's At and Black Coffee into dancefloor fillers. All Saints will be back with new material towards the end of 2008.
Daddy O was written by Therese Grankvist (Stonebridge vocalist on the classics Put 'Em High and Take Me Away) alongside Thriller Jill (Ian Masterson and Terry Ronald). Therese reveals the area, the street vibe, the chatter & raga bars of Elephant & Castle (London) were the heavy influences, lyrically, behind the song Daddy O.
Be prepared for Shaznay and the WIDEBOYS to take over a dance floor near you soon! Daddy O is set for release on AATW on the 5th May 2008!
