The US had up to 500,000 soldiers there at any one time in addition to ARVN, Koreans, Australians etc. They also had better weaponry, total air superiority, license to blitz the landscape with defoliants, and could also relocate the populations of villages and regions at will. They only drew the line at nuclear bombs.
So don't let anyone tell you it was the media's fault they lost. The media may have been inaccurate in favour of the communists at times, but they also faithfully parroted inflated body count claims from the US for the duration. They were basically independent, unlike the carefully shepherd "journalism" that results from embedded media today.

The Comunist was kicked in the ass by US and ARVN for all Vietnam War ! They lost war in 1968 leaving just guerrilla... , and have to wait 5 years, 2 after American Army went home, to try to invade Vietnam again...... Politics and Hippie lost peace in Vietnam.. unfortunately US Soldiers cannot fight against Heavy Comunist Propaganda flamed around the World in the late '60 and '70.
