Today we bring you a Stick News special report about ... absolutely nothing.

Its kind of a parody of the meaningless, overused, live cross on TV news as well as the overuse of clichés - I tried to throw in as many annoying clichés as possible.

(The tdes team went to Sapporo for the day today, so we decided to shoot this special show on Sunday.)

The part in front of the Kutchan Police Station was take two. During take one an officer came out to ask us what we were doing. Luckily we didn't get arrested :) When we said we were just doing a meaningless news parody he went back inside to check if it was OK. He came back out and said it was and that he had seen The Daily English Show, lol.

This is a film sequence from a late 1980's early 1990's TV show in Japan by the name of Daijobu Da. At the beginning of the video clip, the young man goes through the approximate dialogue, which is found in the original Michael Jackson video, including, "when it becomes a full moon...." (Japanese version = "mangetsu ni naru toh.....)




Then the transformation of the young man into a Japanese grandfather rather than a werewolf is humorous, and caricatures the common appearance of some old Japanese men who roam blissfully around in their gardens or on the streets in front of their homes in their white undies (...with a tan knit belly warmer which is supposed to provide some healthful protection). As a spoof of Michael Jackson's Thriller, it includes the proposal, the chase, a brief dance sequence in which the thriller melody is played on traditional Japanese instruments, and the conclusion in an abandoned house. An excellent example of how culture crosses over from one country to another.

ローレンス・レッシグ

The arrival of the information age and the potential to share vast amounts of data have prompted some to call for a reconsideration of the concepts of intellectual property and copyright law. This is a field that is of obvious importance to the visual arts. Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization (established in 2001) that aims to develop and support the circulation of information and intellectual property by providing a flexible range of protections and freedoms. Lawrence Lessig, a founding board member of Creative Commons, discusses the progress of Creative Commons to date and what lies ahead for it in the future.

Lawrence Lessig
Earned a JD from Yale University. Clerked for a U.S. Supreme Court Judge. Teaches and writes in the areas of constitutional law, contracts, and the law of cyberspace. Prior to joining the Stanford faculty, he was at Harvard Law School and at the University of Chicago. He is the author of numerous books including "Code" (1999) and "The Future of Ideas" (2001).

A rather quick and dirty "How To" on creating a vivid color louvre effect for a Video Clip with a subject matter that moves across the screen. Upon learning this technique, one will find it is very adaptable to other uses or applications.

A "colour collage music video" of the buses of MTA Maryland in Baltimore, ranging from some of the oldest Flxible Metros to the newest New Flyer DE60LFRs.

Techinical notes: This project is the result of hours of editing work in Corel Video Suite, and is a montage of over 20 clips using variations of the colour louvre effect. The clips were all saved as separate 720x404 (in order to preserve the 16:9 display ratio) MOV files and compiled here on two overlay tracks so that they could interchange to allow multiple shots to display simultaneously on the screen. Final output was a 720x404 MOV file that is 5:03 in length and 272MB in size, and will likely take much of the night to upload to Youtube over DSL.
