Everyone knows that if you're a super-cool badass, you don't wear your sunglasses like a normal person--you tilt them down your nose and peer over the top as if to say, "The sun may be bright, but not as brilliant and awesome as me. Look into my squinting eyes and dare to tell me something different." This slideshow is an archival study of the global phenomenon known as shade tippin', a practice common in the 1980s and 1990s that continues today among the cultural avant-garde.
