Logically, Shell could use this supposed "bendy straw" technology to drill from land, so they wouldn't need to rent platforms, helicopters, pay their staff so much etc etc.

The people who live nearby better watch out.

In Ireland, Shell are trying to install a refinery onshore as part of their Corrib scheme, and want to bring the raw natural gas nine km inland through a high pressure pipeline.

When local people objected, Shell used the legal system to put them in prison.

It's an ongoing problem, with many people being arrested and beaten by the police force, while Shell tries to tell everyone that it is concerned about the environment and community consent!
