In 968, he fell out with king Ramiro III after the latter refused to fight them. In the factional and succcessional politics of the time, Gonzalo may be said to have favoured the line of Ordoño III and his son Vermudo II over Sancho I and his son Ramiro III,because both Sancho and Romiro sided treaties with the Arabs. And from here started the Feud between the Northwest and the rest of the Iberian Peninsula.One of the main reasons we have Spanish language today (and Spain), separated from Galician and Portuguese Languages.

I cant help if everywhere you look you see/hear Portugues or Spanish Heritage.But There's a difference between Portu/Spanis from Iberia , and Brasilians or any South American Country with maybe one exception Argentina where it kept for most Part of all S.A. countries European blood. We'd be writting em' in Roman Numerals instead. We wouldn't have all the great Greek mythologies and the rebirth of our ancient Romans, thnks to Spain and North Africa. And of course many other things that us Europeans and the rest of the world adapted,from Iberia and North Africa. Don't be scared I'm not.
