Thanks for the comments cutegrandma, but the opening scene of the movie Glory does depict Captain Robert Gould Shaw at the Battle of Antietam in 1862. Later in the movie he accepts command of the 54th Massachusettes - an all black regiment. At the beginning of the movie the 54th had not been formed yet. Colonel Shaw is depicted with his 54th Mass and their assault on Battery Wagner at the end of the movie. But the movie itself depicts the development of the regiment not just the assault on battery Wagner :)

Please correct your video. The movie "Glory" did NOT depict the Battle of Antietam. Denzel Washington received an academy award for his portrayal of a black soldier in the Massachusettes all black 54th...Morgan Freeman also stared as a black sergeant.

Your video depicting the opening of the movie "Glory" is NOT the Battle of Antietam. It is the seige of Battery Wagner on James Island, SC..it depicts the attempt of the All Black Massachusettes 54th, led by young Col. Robert Shaw, a white man. The Confederates led by the North Carolina 51st Infantry Regiment, Company E , of which my Great great grandfather, Isham Rowland Butler fought. The Confederates held Battery Wagner and never surrendered. This battlesite is now partially underwater due to erosion. The dead from both sides were buried in mass graves which are under water beneath the Morriss Island Lighthouse about a mile from shore at Folley Beach on James Island, South Carolina.....O. K. "John Wayne", you have had your US History lesson for today....Now get back to defending Truth, Justice, Mom, apple pie and the American Way....
