Where the light at the end of the tunnel is always an oncoming train.
About Me:
I have no problem with folks embedding/sharing/reusing my stuff as long as you do the right thing and give me credit; it would be nice if you'd give me a heads-up before doing so too.
Now that that's out of the way, enjoy the clips!
Equipment used:
Camera: Canon HV20
Tripod: Manfrotto 190XB legs w/ 701HDV head
Microphone: Rode SVM
Country:
United States
Hobbies:
Railfanning, trainspotting...or whatever they call it in your neck of the woods. Born and raised in 1970s Philadelphia, so my childhood consisted of lots of Penn Central, early Conrail and Amtrak, and SEPTA suburban action. Trips to visit family in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre/Clarks Summit area netted a few glimpses of Erie Lackawanna action too - I have vivid memories of seeing the Freedom Train in Scranton, next to the yard that would eventually become Steamtown. My family moved to North Carolina in the 80s, and my railfan attention shifted to Southern, Seaboard System, and early NS/CSX. I traveled on many NRHS excursions out of Charlotte, but unfortunately started shooting video too late to capture much of it. My current stomping ground is the Richmond, VA area, dominated (of course!) by NS and CSX . I hope to widen my view with some longer-distance trips in the future.
Books:
The Wreck Of The Penn Central (Daughen and Binzen), America's Colorful Railroads (Ball), The Pennsylvania Railroad (Ball), Triumph I-VIII (Roberts, Messer, and others)

Hmm...let me see here; actually it was 12 trains in one afternoon and NOT 10 trains.

10 trains in one afternoon today at Ashland, not bad! When the Auto Train came through, in which case was located at the corner of South Center Street and Henry Clay Rd (it's College Avenue on the other side) the engineer did two horn blasts when he past by me. I also saw a 'Conrail Quality' Engine on the 3rd train I saw at Ashcake, how 'bout that.

What is the difference between an SD40-2 and an SD50-2?

Couldn't say...never had a problem with ghosting...that I know of.

Would I have to pan (turn) the camera carefully when using PF24 to eliminate ghosting, or will it look better after removing pulldown?

Yes, that's what I do.

If I go up to College Avenue do I set up on the campus side in the morning and then go to the other side in the afternoon/evening?

hhp - easiest way I know to tell externally (besides knowing the number from the roster, of course) is to look at the thickness of the radiator 'wings' at the rear - a Dash 8 has a thinner cross-section on that piece vs. a Dash 9, noticeably so if you see them next to each other in a consist. Also, I believe the 'high adhesion' truck design on the Dash 9s was new for that series; I've never seen a Dash 8 that had the same trucks as a Dash 9.
