Today, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County ("FPDCC") announced the first five winners of its Forest Preserve Family Four Pack Giveaway, part of its 68,000 Acres of Adventure public awareness campaign. You must watch the video to find out who won the first five of the twenty prize packs!
So many families are looking for affordable ways to entertain the kids - or even the parents - during the summer months, said FPDCC General Superintendent Dr. Steven M. Bylina, Jr. With that in mind, we decided to offer the public a giveaway where winners will receive a prize pack that includes something for the whole family can enjoy throughout the last days of summer.
Each prize pack contains something for everyone in the family:
• Four (4) free admission passes to the Brookfield Zoo, plus one (1) free parking voucher;
• One (1) free parking pass to the Chicago Botanic Garden (admission to the Garden is always free);
• One (1) free voucher for a free golf foursome at any one of the District's ten (10) golf courses; and
• One (1) voucher redeemable for a free 2010 FPDCC Family Swim Pass. The pass, which will be redeemable next spring, will allow any family, up to five (5) individuals, to swim for free all summer long during the 2010 FPDCC swim season!
Participants can still enter the contest in three easy steps::
(1) Participants MUST join the FPDCC facebook group page (link);
(2) Participants MUST also join the FPDCC facebook fan page (link); and
(3) Participants MUST send an email to Contest@soclose2you.org. The subject line MUST read: "Contest Entry" and the email MUST contain Your name, a valid mailing address (including street address, city, state and zip code) and a working phone number. Participants should only send one email. Numerous additional email entries from single individuals will be deleted.
Twenty (20) prize packs will be given away throughout the month of August. The District will pull five (5) names at random every Friday in August and those winners will be notified by phone.
It should be noted that no taxpayer dollars have been used for this promotion, said General Superintendent Steve Bylina. The FPDCC thanks its co-sponsors - the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Brookfield Zoo and Billy Casper Golf - for their participation and incredible generosity to help make this promotion possible.
The Forest Preserve District of Cook County is landowner of the Brookfield Zoo and the Chicago Botanic Garden. Billy Casper Golf manages and maintains the FPDCCs 10 golf courses and four driving ranges.
Participants can enter contest through August 27, 2009 at 11:59 PM (CST). For contest rules, click here.

Swallow Cliff Woods North is my favorite place in Cook County. In the summer, it's truly nature's gym, with more than a dozen miles of connected trails, including an 8.1-mile loop. The large open areas are great for everything from walking lunges to workout boot camp to a little batting practice for father and son. And then there is the GEM of the preserve: The Stairs at Swallow Cliff. As the premier feature of this location, 126 stairs welcome hundreds of workout-seekers every day, all year round. From stair-climbers to joggers to bicyclists, this location is both beautiful to the eye and unbeatable to help visitors stay healthy.
As great as this location is during the warmer months, it is just as popular in the winter, when Swallow Cliff becomes a wonderland. With tiny hills for tots to discover sledding and the one of the area's highest sledding hills for the bigger kid in all of us, the sledding hill at Swallow Cliff has been lauded by area thrill-seekers as the best in the region. The trails welcome winter hikers and the wide open areas of land are overtaken by nordic skiers, winter workout buffs and the occasional snowman builder.
Swallow Cliff is simply the BEST place in Chicagoland. It offers spaces to create workout opportunities to help keep visitors healthy, active family time for bonding and a chance to create all the do-it-yourself fun you can imagine.
