The essential McCartney albums are the first two. 'Band On The Run' represents Paul's return to the professionalism of The Beatles, and some of the Wings albums are very fine indeed, but after decades of McCartney listening, I can't help preferring the rawness of 'McCartney' and 'Ram'.

'With The Beatles' is, kind of, 'Meet The Beatles's Directors' Cut.
Millions of Americans experienced the latter rather than the other, so historically, 'Meet The Beatles' obviously has got *some* validity, even if it feels like a bit of a forgery.

I've had Paul's book for nearly five years. Paul does *NOT* claim 50%, no matter how much you try to convince yourself of the opposite.

The moving of the zebra crossing was originally added to the wikipedia article(about the album) on April 1st(!) 2008, and people were indeed fooled.

What validates McCartneyII is that it, along with McCartney and Ram, represents something separate from The Beatles. As good as Band On The Run is, it still feels like something The Beatles did as well, or, let's face it, even better. McCartneyII is not a great album, but it's rather... idiosyncr...
