Americans should have the peace of mind that comes with knowing that their futures will be financially secure. Yet, millions of Americans worry about their health and long-term financial security. For many, the American dream is eroding along with this security. We can't let this happen.

We must act and we must act now. If we don't, the next generation will be the first in American history to be less well off than their parents.

AARP, Business Roundtable, SEIU, and NFIB are stepping up to this challenge with Divided We Fail so that Americans can achieve long-term financial security and get the health care they need.

We believe that the opportunity to have access to health care and long-term financial security is a basic need that all Americans share. We believe it is the foundation for future generations.

We believe all Americans should have access to affordable, quality health care.

We believe... All Americans should have access to affordable health care, including prescription drugs, and these costs should not burden future generations.
We believe... Wellness and prevention efforts, including changes in personal behavior such as diet and exercise, should be top national priorities.
We believe... Americans should have choices when it comes to long-term care - allowing them to maintain their independence at home or in their communities with expanded and affordable financing options.

We believe all Americans should have peace of mind about their future long-term financial security.

We believe... Our children and grandchildren should have an adequate quality of life when they retire. Social Security must be strengthened without burdening future generations.
We believe... Workers should be provided with financial incentives to save, should have access to effective retirement plans, and should be able to keep working and contributing to society regardless of age.
We believe... Americans of all ages should have access to tools to help manage their finances, and save for the future and better, easy to understand information to help them increase their financial literacy and manage their money wisely.

We stand as strong champions for the new American dream -- to build a 21st century America where these issues are paramount so that all people can have the opportunity for a prosperous future. We also believe that individuals, businesses, health care providers, non-profit organizations, and government must work together to find solutions - personally, privately and publicly. We represent tens of millions of Americans and we believe that all of us share a responsibility for making our society work and restoring peace of mind to all Americans.

	conniesnyder (10 months ago) After listening to both Barack Obama and John McCain talk about healthcare in the webcast today, it is clear to me as an AARP member, that Obama had the specific answers to the specific questions. McCain offered slogans and promises with no specifics on how he was going to achieve them. His answers consisted mostly of "I can do it" and We must work together". Well, I for one am sick of promises undelivered and hoping for change. Thank you so much for this informative webcast. I will be casting my vote for the young man of action and not for the broken promises of the past. This senior says Obama/Biden '08 and God speed those two men to victory in November. We need them desperately.

It's sad to see so many stab themselves in the back with their "macho" view of the Republican party, the party that cares less about health care options for seniors and the poor.
	zazzym (1 year ago) I am 73 and I am ashamed of AARP and many of my generation who buy into these Socialistic programs and rants to redistribute money and bleed our children and grandchildren so they can have these "benefits". The brave people who settled this country and our veterans who have fought for out country, must be rolling in their graves wondering just where we went wrong and what happened to our ability to fend for ourselves and accept responsibility for our actions (or inaction). These programs will destroy our country from within. The terrorists just have to wait and take over what is left.
	scottdpm (1 year ago) I want to thank all of you young folks who are going to help me through the Golden years. After having lived through the most prosperous time in recorded history it is refreshing to know that I will never be expected to sell my vacation home in Northern MN or my Winter headquarters in AZ just to pay for things like heart transplants. What a generous bunch of bumpkins you are to take care of us old farts who have been borrowing from future generations for years. Thanks again and give me more.
	navyecmo (1 year ago) Take Dakota Fanning out of the commercials. It ruins your credibility. Why should I care about the opinions of a 14 year old on these issues? She has never had to pay a bill, has never wanted for anything and has lived in the world of Hollywood and privilege for essentially all of her sentient life. I'm not criticizing Miss Fanning and don't fault her for any of this, but it's absurd for her to be a spokesperson for these issues.
