The Alaska Film School provides hands-on training and field experience for aspiring and professional producers. Staff and students hone their skills shooting, editing and broadcasting to the local and global community. The curriculum and syllabus are experiential based with an emphasis on Global Travel and Independent Filmmaking. This includes career development in multi-media production: writing, photography, digital video, web page design, and creation of an online storefront.

Highlights of the training are documented via story, photo and digital video then uploaded to YouTube and other web-based venues. The best of this material becomes chapters in one or more DVDs.

The best of the DVDs are showcased as feature-length productions for the big-screen and various movie-theaters.
