The Five Scamps - Gonna Buy Myself a Mule (promo 78) DaveSwinger - 41 views - 3 days ago
Gonna Buy Myself a Mule
written by Wyatt Griffin
performed by The Five Scamps
recorded 22 March 1951
issued in May 1951 as Columbia 30242

From Kansas City, The Scamps here were Wyatt Griffin (lead vocals and guitar), Arthur Jackson (vocals, tenor sax, alto sax, baritone sax, and clarinet), Louis Wright (piano), Earl Garnett (vocals and cocktail drums), and Edwin Fountaine (vocals and bassist).

This was the last of six for Columbia. This is a clean flexi-vinyl pressing.

Technical Note: All records are played on an Audio-Technica AT-PL120 with a Shure M78S cart and a 3.0 mm diamond stylus, for 78s, at 3.0 grams or an Audio-Technica ATP-2XN cart with a 0.7 mm diamond stylus, for 45s and LPs, at 1.5 grams. The recordings are played through a Radio Shack mixer to the PC's line in with no equalization or noise reduction. What you hear is what is on the disc, for better or worst. This set up seems to work and sound the best, to my ears.

How Could You?
written by Joel Turnero
performed by The Mello-Moods with the Schubert Swanston Trio
issued in December 1951 as Robin 105

Ray "Buddy" Wooten leads, with some help from Bobby Williams, on their very first record. The other mebers were James Bethea, Bobby Baylor, and Monte Owens. Williams, Bethea, and Owens would later team up with Herman Curtis, Buzzy Willis, and Pat Gaston to form The Solitaires.

According to Joel Whitburn, Robin 105 has the highest cash value ($2000) of any record ever making the R&B Top-10 (#7).

The Four Clefs - Honey Dear (78) DaveSwinger - 166 views - 3 days ago
Honey Dear (If I Were You)
written by Floyd Hunt
performed by The Four Clefs
issued circa February 1941 as Bluebird B- 8670-B

Let us see. . . "Hammond Electric Organ, Bass, Guitar, Vibraphone and Drums with singing". Five instruments and only four clefs, what's with that? I digress. . .

From Chicago, the group here on this recording could be guitarist Johnny Green, organist James Marshall, and brothers Melvin (bass) and Willie Chapman (drums, vibes, and lead vocals). They had about twenty releases on Bluebird and a few more after that on the main RCA Victor label.

Incredible Sonovox - Kay Kyser - 1940 film "You'll Find Out" MisterSco... - 29,610 views - 1 year ago
Amazing device that gives voice to musical instruments. The Sonovox consists of one or two louspeakers placed on the throat that play the source sound. The performer whispers the words while the speakers stand in for the voice box. Used for the talking train in Disney's Dumbo, uncountable radio promos, a tube-in-the-mouth version "Talk Box" was used by Frampton to make his guitar sing, and all-electronic "Vocoder" versions are still used in current pop music.

bellgardens53 (1 month ago)
Ok, I check "Whadaya Want" here, tnx! .I found, by chance you can say "Framed/Loop-De-Loop Mambo". Mmmm...that disney cannel I second you - what happened? Maybe like the old Donal Duck magazines...a decline since the '50s or early '60s. Carl Bark was a genius. Btw, all new cartoons on TV (I very seldom watch TV at all) are 100s of layers below all those classics from the '40s or '50s imho.
