Thank you for your suggestion re retrieving my dvd. Unfortunately my TV does not have the small aperture you suggested. I have tried all other possibilities and have come to the conclusion that, if the set is not repairable , I have a tv wrecking party and can rescue my dvd that way!!!

you are absolutely right on your comments regarding to Mario del Monaco. He is not suitable for this role ( Otello ) Vickers is al right. Also Merli although his voice is lighter. PLease listen to Zanelli. My favorite is Vinay. When he sings the pianisimos his voice doesn´t lose weight. His interpretation is immaculate. In Spanish:
Su voz obscura, pastosa, de gran volumen y anchura, le permite interpretar este rol tan difícil, sólo reservado para unos pocos.
Cada cantante en su rol; por ejemplo: Carreras interpretando ricondita armonia el año 1982 donde en este caso particular, se requiere de gran frescura y no de robustez (en el buen sentido) como en Otello.
