why could you not windrow it with a blade and then go back and aerate the whole windrow with a compost turner, seems like it would go much faster than an aeration machine on every pass???

They are rebaled for transportation/ logistics reasons, And the reason they are not baled that tight in the field is because it takes increditable amounts of pressure to make hay that tight, much more than a portable baler,can do economically, not to mention the heating problems assoicated ...

Infact, when using this system, weve had a lot of our early July hay that was cut after seed and straw test as good as the same varieties cut in May (that is without denying that we do supply our seed acres with quite a bit more N)
