Karen Carpenter and her brother Richard contributed greatly to the music industry and their impact is still extremely evident. Their musicianship should be respected and celebrated by an induction into the Rock Hall. Karen Carpenter was a consummate performer who entered the industry as a singing drummer, not only providing some of the most celebrated vocal recordings in the history of popular music, but also showing the world that a talented percussionist can be female. To add to the proficiency of Karen Carpenter's musical talents, her playing of an electric bass can be heard on some of the Carpenters earliest recordings. Of course Karen was only one half of the groundbreaking duo, the talent of her brother Richard cannot be overstated. As a singer, composer, songwriter, piano player - all around musical genius, the Carpenters sound would not exist without him.
