The Cornwall Archaeological Society was formed in 1961 - it grew out of the West Cornwall Field Club, itself founded in 1935 by a group of enthusiasts who were studying the archaeology of West Cornwall. Currently the society has nearly 600 members and organises activities covering all aspects of the discipline.

Cornwall Archaological Society is undertaking a two-week dig at, what is assumed to be, a henge site at St. Newlyn East. Identified from aerial photographs, if proven, this will be the first henge find in Cornwall for several decades.
