There is a great tradition of free thought in the Conservative Party. Many leading Conservative thinkers have not required religious belief or superstition to define their lives or their political views.

The creation of the Conservative Humanist Association means that all three major UK political Parties now have associations aligned with the British Humanist Association. We hope that all UK political parties will now recognise that the majority of our people want a more secular political system.

There is an opportunity for Conservatives - with our focus on individual freedom and choice - to create a real dynamic for change in our civil society.

I come from a family of Labour supporter's and voters but if you can make the Tory party the party of secular values and promote some policy in the area of the abolition of faith schools and bishops in the house of lords then you will get my vote and many many more.

Hi HenryOrientJnr,

I think I know what you mean, our freedom and liberty will always need to be protected, although it'd be nice to not have to kill or die for it.

Vikki

"In each generation, those of us who believe in freedom, in human potential, in the idea that the strength of our society comes from the energy and industry and creativity of our people, those of us who believe in these things must be ready to fight for them because the enemies of freedom are never finally vanquished."

- The Rt. Hon David Cameron MP.

Good website, but may I suggest removing "Imagine" from your Favourites? I do not think most secular conservatives believe that there is "nothing to kill or die for" - we just do not include "religion" as being one of those things.

Hi Firesteel1

The Conservative Humanist Association was formed on 29th Feb 2008 with 3 aims:

i) to promote awareness of Humanism, humanists and secularism within the Conservative Party;

ii) to promote understanding of Conservatism within the Humanist movement;

iii) to promote Humanism and Conservatism within the whole community.

We're offically launching our group at Party Conference in September and we're very excited Prof. Richard Dawkins will be our Guest Speaker.

Thanks

Vikki
