Most students here are from the New York tri-state area, not to mention mostly female. Some would complain that there aren't enough guys around. 72.5 percent of Adelphi University's undergraduate student body is female. Though diverse, the school is very clique-y. The acting students hang together, the international students, the honor students and so forth. Some history, Adelphi is the first institution of the liberal arts and sciences on Long Island. The University maintains a commitment to liberal studies in tandem with rigorous professional preparation and active citizenship.
If you're looking for a great engineering program at a great price, then Oklahoma State is the place to be. You'll also find lots of fun activities and over 300 organizations to keep you busy when you're not studying as well as one of the best Greek systems in the US--celebrating 100 years in 2008. Equally important, though some argue more, is football. The Oklahoma State Cowboys are part of NCAA Division I-A athletics and part of the Big 12 Conference. Go Pokes!
As you would expect, Portland State University is a bleeding heart liberal, diverse and progressive university. It pretty much encompasses everything Portland is. Republican is a dirty word around here, some say it would be harder to admit a right wing allegiance than anything else you could imagine. There is also a pretty large alternative community as well. Between the jocks, geeks, angry liberals, international students and people from varying cultures and walks of life, they all seem to fit really well here. Many incoming freshmen are working adults ready to get out and change the world.
This University has a most interesting history, it began as the Hartford Art School. Founded by a group of women in Hartford including Mark Twain's wife, Mrs. Samuel Clemens and Harriet Beecher Stowe. It was known then as the Hartford Society for Decorative Art. Its original location was at the Wadsworth Atheneum, the first public art museum in the United States. It is still associated with the museum today. The University of Hartford provides a balanced curriculum and prides itself on providing students with all they need to become successful people. Notable alumni, Ralph Nader.
This private Baptist school may be a part of the big 12 but it is never mistaken for any of the other 11. For anyone who is interested in exploring the Baptist faith, and simultaneously get a college degree, this school is perfect. Freshmen are required to partake in a bible study, and all students enjoy sharing about and actively growing in their faith. Though students know their football team isn't ranked, if "Religiosity" was a sport they could boast about the top 10 every year.
