Bear Grylls is one of the most well known and successful, young adventurers in the world. At just 23 years old, he became The Youngest Briton to climb Mount Everest.

In August 2003, he led the first crew to cross the Atlantic via the Arctic Circle in an open rigid inflatable boat. in September 1997, he became the Youngest Briton to climb Mount Ama Dablam in the Himalayas (22,500 feet), a peak described by Sir Edmond Hillary as unclimbable. This year Bear co wrote and presented a TV series for Channel 4, Escape To The Legion which will broadcast from July 5th at 9.00pm and he is already preparing for two more televised expeditions.

Bears achievements are made even more extraordinary when you discover that just two years before he climbed Everest he suffered a near fatal parachuting accident in Africa; breaking his back in three places and narrowly escaping a life of paralysis. He spent a torturous year of rehabilitation constantly facing the fact that he might never walk again, let alone achieve his childhood dream of climbing Everest. Despite moments of great pain and despair, Bear worked hard to regain full mobility and together with a team of friends he planned his expedition. With characteristic determination and charm he raised the enormous sponsorship needed and began training for the daunting challenge.

Enduring extreme weather for ninety days, two months of limited sleep and surviving running out of oxygen in the upper regions of the death zone (above 26,000 feet). Bear is one of only thirty British climbers to have successfully completed climbing Everest and return alive. The death toll on Mount Everest rises every year, out of every six mountaineers who make it to the top, one will die. Bear himself had a narrow escape. On the way down from his first reconnaissance climb, whilst navigating the perilous Khumbu Icefall, the ice cracked and he fell into a 1,000 feet deep crevasse. He was knocked unconscious and had it not been for his team-mates he would not be alive today. This particular incident was dramatised as part of the award winning, Sure For Men advertising campaign, which starred Bear and was broadcast worldwide.

Bear has written two books, Facing Up (published in America under the title, The Kid Who Climbed Everest), records his Everest expedition and soared into the bestseller list selling over 70,000 copies in the UK alone and Facing The Frozen Ocean (his arctic expedition) which was published by Macmillan in 2004.

Before climbing Everest, Bear spent three years as a Specialist Combat Survival Instructor and Patrol Medic with the British Special Forces. As a keen environmentalist, he led the first team to Jet Ski around Britain testing a pioneering new fuel made from rubbish and owns a nature reserve on an island, off the Welsh coast. When he is not on his island, Bear lives on a houseboat in London with his wife Shara, baby Jesse and Nima the Labrador.

His natural talent for communicating and entertaining on all levels with everyone and anyone has made him a popular personality in his own right. As one of the youngest and most successful motivational speakers on the international business circuit, Bear has won over even the toughest of audiences and has a list of extremely impressive references to his credit.

Jo Gambi CMspeakers - 207 views - 7 months ago
Jo entered the Guinness World Records for the fastest female ascent of the Seven Summits. Jo also is the second British woman to ever climb Everests North Ridge. In 2005 Jo Gambi and her husband, Rob, became the first couple to both climb the Seven Summits and ski to the North and South Poles. Jo was also the first female and Rob the first Australian to achieve this. Remarkably they unwittingly achieved these records not only while Rob was in remission from his second bout of cancer, but also in spite of facing death along the way, while stranded high in the Himalaya.

With nothing more than Rob and Jos characteristic passion and determination, they also succeeded in completing the Seven Summits in record time.

Jos book Holding On a story of love and survival was successfully launched in the UK and internationally in 2006 with substantial media interest, and Jo is now in demand for speaking both at home and abroad. As a talented and keen photographer, Jo has captured images from some of the most remote and wild places around the globe and in addition to contributing to the prestigious Nikon Owner Magazine, she is currently working on her second, photographic book.

At an early age Jos passion for the outdoors developed on family holidays where sailing, camping and hiking were the norm. Although Jo competed successfully throughout her school years in numerous athletics disciplines, she excelled in her academic studies too, going on to be awarded the highest grade and a first class honours degree in Business Management and Clothing, as well as a Diploma in Biblical Studies. After this Jo was accepted on the acclaimed graduate management programme at Marks and Spencer which led to her career as a Product Technologist in the mens and womens wear buying teams.

Jos university summer vacations saw her passion for travel and adventure develop as she worked overseas extensively in Kenya, Romania, Bolivia, US, Greece and Malaysia. With roles varying from sailing instructor and lifeguard to community, hospital and church based projects. In 1997, Jos career changed direction as she wanted to pursue a profession more dedicated towards helping people something she had always enjoyed throughout her ten years of church youth work. After gaining a degree in Physiotherapy she worked at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), one of the countrys leading NHS trusts as well as working privately for the London Welsh Rugby Club and teaching Clinical Pilates.

Jos warm, gregarious personality combined with her dynamic and engaging speaking style enable her to inspire, challenge and motivate any audiences. She not only brings fascinating insights as a result of her experiences, but her reflections both as a female and a wife are also unique.

Whilst Jos achievements may seem out of reach for most people, audiences are often delighted and relieved to discover she is from a very ordinary background without any of the potential advantages of a privileged upbringing or education. By tenaciously overcoming personal obstacles, Jo has discovered that so many of lifes answers are within reach of us all. Jo loves the opportunity speaking brings her to inspire people to be the best they can be, maintain perspective, and passionately pursue their dreams.

Jo now lives in west London with her husband Rob, who is now an MD for UBS Global Asset Management.
