BT is proud to be the official communication services partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We have a long history of supporting Paralympic sport in the UK, stretching back to when we became the first commercial sponsor of the British Paralympic Association (BPA) in 1989 and we'll keep supporting ParalympicsGB all the way to the Rio Games in 2016.
As the title sponsor of the BT Paralympic World Cup, the world's only annual multi-sport elite disability event, we're bringing Paralympic sport to a wider audience. In addition, we directly support a number of top Paralympic athletes hoping to win medals at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Our ambassadors are vital in our aim of raising the profile for Paralympic sport within the UK and helping motivate our workforce around the globe.
We have always been passionate about connecting people and communities; that's why we have undertaken a three-year partnership with the Lord's Taverners to install 12 sensory rooms in special schools around the UK. A partnership inspired by our continued support of education and sporting initiatives through our London 2012 programme.
All this is why we are working with Channel 4 as a co-sponsor of their Paralympic coverage. Together, our aim is to help as many people as possible understand and get excited about Paralympic sport.
Sainsbury's is proud to be the official supermarket partner of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
We are the first ever Paralympic Games-only sponsor, and our landmark commitment to the Paralympic Movement is the largest ever sponsorship of a Paralympic Games.
Sainsbury's has always been committed to promoting a healthier, active lifestyle for all, regardless of ability. A great example of this is our successful Active Kids scheme, through which we have donated over £100 million worth of sports equipment, kit and coaching experiences to UK schools, nurseries, Scout and Girl Guide groups since its launch in 2005.
We are committed to raising awareness of Paralympic sport and have recently launched the Million Kids Challenge. This aims to encourage one million children, both disabled and non-disabled, to take part in a Paralympic sport and share in the excitement of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
We are also hosting Sainsbury's Super Saturday, in partnership with Channel 4, which will be a family-focused day of celebration on Clapham Common. The day will provide a wide variety of entertainment, blending Paralympic sport with music and entertainment, to help drive awareness and engagement with the Paralympic Games. All profits from this event will go to the Paralympic Legacy Fund, which has been set up in conjunction with the BPA (British Paralympic Association), to build a legacy for Paralympic sport over the coming years.
Sainsbury's colleagues will also have the opportunity to be part of the London 2012 Games. Up to 30 colleagues will be seconded to The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, and over 100 will become Games Makers, volunteering at the Games themselves.
Sainsbury's is committed to making a lasting difference to attitudes towards disability in the UK and creating real opportunities for change in the lives of people with disabilities.
