Silhouette - Original Bulerias2005 - 260 views - 2 weeks ago
An original "noir-jazz" composition... It is actually written for a saxophone-guitar-piano trio, but I compressed it to two guitars for this video.

On my upcoming CD, it will hopefully be in its intended trio format.

St. Augustine - Original Bulerias2005 - 273 views - 3 weeks ago
An original jazz-waltz inspired by a recent visit to St. Augustine, FL... St. Augustine is a city originally founded by the Spanish, so most of the buildings are hundreds of years old. As such, the mood of this piece is nostalgic and a little playful (I segue into multiple keys -- A major/minor, E minor, and F minor, among others). Also, given how old the city is, I tried to musically capture the passage of time by reharmonizing the opening melody twice, a technique that I hope adds harmonic interest to the piece. Please excuse the cicada noises in the background, I wasn't able to edit them out. Hope you enjoy the piece regardless!

Bulerias - Original Bulerias2005 - 329 views - 4 weeks ago
An original tune in the Bulerias flamenco form in D-B-G-D-A-D tuning. This will be track 1 on my upcoming CD. :) The repeat of the first part is overdubbed with second guitar and bass parts.

Please excuse any technical imperfections, I happened to break my nails a little while ago and they haven't grown back yet...

Carinhoso - Pixinguinha Bulerias2005 - 370 views - 1 month ago
My arrangement of the classic Brazilian song "Carinhoso"... I also added a bit of "Silent Sounds" to the introduction, I think it works well in this context.

I'm once again hooked up to an amp since the computer I use to record with Pro Tools isn't going to be usable for a few weeks (overheating problems).

B Minor Waltz - Bill Evans Bulerias2005 - 458 views - 1 month ago
A solo guitar arrangement of Bill Evans' "B Minor Waltz", based on the version off "You Must Believe in Spring", one of his last studio albums...

I didn't have time to set up the microphones/equipment today, so I used my amplifier instead. I apologize in advance for the inferior sound, but I hope you enjoy it either way.

Silent Sounds - For Miles (Live) Bulerias2005 - 231 views - 2 months ago
I listened to Miles Davis' "In A Silent Way" for the first time today, and was inspired to compose something in honor of the jazz great... the tune is still a work in progress, and I'll probably add some more material for the final version.

Recorded live at Delicious Cafe & Brazilian Grill -- I waited until almost everyone left, so that there wouldn't be too much background noise. I'll record a "studio" version of this tune soon as well.

Para Estrella Bulerias2005 - 392 views - 2 months ago
This piece is based on themes from songs performed by Estrella Morente; the main theme is loosely based on Cancion de los Pastores, a traditional Spanish song with lyrics by Federico Garcia Lorca. It was recorded by Estrella on her Christmas album "Calle del Aire". Also making an appearance is a solea por bulerias falseta by Pedro Cortes Jr.

I segue into numerous flamenco forms in this tune, so I suppose it's best not to classify them and just call it a flamenco-tinted tribute to one of the best flamenco cantaoras. :)

Sons De Carrilhões - João Pernambuco Bulerias2005 - 194 views - 2 months ago
A famous choro by João Pernambuco... after I finished recording, I realized that my third string was slightly out of tune (or, as I like to call it, "desafinado") -- but this was the best take, so alas...

Andorinha (new version) - Jobim Bulerias2005 - 291 views - 2 months ago
A new and improved version of Jobim's Andorinha... I changed the reverb effect so that it resembles what Jobim used for the original, Fender Rhodes version.

An airplane flew by at 0:25... so I suppose the tune is literally a "samba do avião", hehe. :)

I'm a classical, flamenco, and Brazilian guitarist. I've been studying guitar for almost ten years. I play a Stephen Kakos 1988 guitar in most of my videos, but I also occasionally use a Yamaha CG171SF flamenco guitar and an Epiphone ES-175 jazz guitar.

New album coming later this year!
