LYRICS:
My heart is going out to the Grand Pier Massive,
28 7 2008 was well sad,
cos Weston lost it's heart.
Peace, love, respect, W.S.M.
Nuff' said.
Yo, I didn't believe it on that Monday morning,
Rising from my bed as I was stretching and yawning.
The previous evening I had stayed up so late,
Cos I was on the Red Bull, playing Wii-Sports with a mate.
The next day when I woke, it was already noon,
I was totally unaware of the news I'd hear soon..
..of the tragedy and misery of our loss by the sea,
but my ignorance was shattered when I viewed the TV.
At first I was confused and didn't know what to think,
But when the truth registered, I had to run to the sink.
It wasn't Red-Bull based vomit, it was tears from my head,
When I asked myself why,
A woman's voice simply said.....
COS NOTHING COMPARES
NOTHING COMPARES TO YOU
That's right, Grand Pier, R.I.P. nothing compared to you.
You can't trust many things to stay there with you always,
but the Grand Pier never left me, it was there for all days.
Even the sea would leave me twice every day,
but the Grand Pier wasn't like that, it was grounded that way.
They came from all over the land, to see the famous pier view.
From Newport, from Birmingham... and some other towns too.
They loved the town, they loved the chips, they loved all of the sand.
But their top destination was a pier they called Grand.
I looked to myself .... and I asked myself why...
...the burning of a pavilion could make a man cry.
The woman's voice returned like a voice from the dead,
and she pretty much re-iterated what she had previously said.
COS NOTHING COMPARES
NOTHING COMPARES TO YOU
I can't help but think about the things that are lost,
all the things I want back and the all the prices they cost.
No more ice-cream, no more dodgems, no more arcade high-scores,
and no more groping plush toys with uncontrollable claws.
No more Bullet Train rides and no more Crazy House fun,
and no more prizes for exchanging all the tickets you've won.
No more fun for the kids spending their piggy banks,
and no more dropping your change through the gaps in the planks.
I swear I saw a tear in the eye of donkey.
That's right, I saw a donkey weep, and you should weep too.
Show your respect.
Be man, be a woman, be a child, be a senior citizen.... just be yourself and show the love.
The Grand Pier will rise again, Phoenix like from the ashes of fruit machines, the ashes of plush toys, and the ashes of a million shattered dreams.
Don't lose heart, don't turn away, Weston is still buzzing with life,
and the Grand Pier will return...
...one day.
