Ryan Bingham and his band, the Dead Horses...Corby Schaub (guitar), Matt Smith (drums), & Elijah Ford (bass, keys)...performing at Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta. The solid performance included songs culled from their two albums; the 2007 debut "Mescalito" and this year's "Roadhouse Sun"; both released on Lost Highway Records. In the opinion of many, including myself, Ryan is the brightest star on the Americana genre horizon; and his music promises to carry the songwriting torch handed down from Woody Guthrie & Bob Dylan; through other great Texas troubadours like Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Joe Ely and Steve Earle. Like Woody, many of Ryan's songs take a Populist stance. His is a voice for the poor and middle classes; for anyone who is struggling in today's world where those in power are continually taking us to war, outsourcing jobs to foreign countries, and in general, ruining our economy. Many people say that they don't like songwriters mixing politics and music. I tell those people that's why they have Taylor Swift and the Black-Eyed Peas. ROCK ON, RYAN!
