Bloco Quimbombó is an energetic and irreverent drum (& dance) troupe that plays Carnaval music of the Americas. They focus on Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian Beats and are always adding in other sounds like Dominican Comparsa and New Orleans 2nd line. The group's members have performed with artists such as Trey Anastasio, Raices Habaneras, Paquito D'Rivera, Celia Cruz, Ray Barretto, and Albita.
Members include musicians from: US, Brasil, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Israel, Chile, Morroco , and Panama.
The group is affliliated with Quimbombó, a groove oriented band and collective of musicians from all over the world with its base in Cuban dance music. Quimbombó has excited audiences at many venues including Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night's Swing, SOB's, and the Brooklyn Museum. They have recorded two CDs, Quimbombó, released in 2004, and Conga Electrica (featuring guest drummers from Bloco Quimbombó), released in 2008.
