About Me:

The Archives of Ontario is the premier source for Ontario's rich documentary memory. Our records date back to 1729, and reflect all aspects of public and private life in Ontario. The Archives is an incredible treasure of information, and our mission is to help people discover the past and thereby shape the future.

In addition to over 310,000 cubic feet of textual records, almost 2 million photographs, and thousands of maps, architectural drawings, and items of documentary art, our collection also includes 40,000 audio, video and film recordings. These include recordings created by the Government and by individuals and groups in the private sector.

Our audio-visual records include some very exciting collections: the televised broadcasts of the Ontario Legislative Assembly from 1986 to 1994; records of the T. Eaton Company; speeches and campaign footage from Ontario politicians; oral history recordings from diverse groups and geographic regions; and various unique home movie collections. More recently, the Archives has acquired the entire news output of London television station CFPL for its first 15 years of operation. CFPL was the second private television station in Canada, and this collection includes more than 2700 rolls of film.

Keep an eye on this space, as the Archives of Ontario will continue to post an entertaining assortment of treasures from its Sound and Moving Image collection.
