Do It Now - The Clash AppoCC119 - 194 views - 2 months ago
Do It Now, the B-Side to This Is England from The Clash (MKII) released in september 1985. One of the better MKII songs if you ask me, though that doesn't say as much as you'd hope it would.
Credited to Strummer & Co on the single release, but since This Is England was changed to Strummer & Rhodes to Cut The Crap's release and it kinda sounds like it, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that this song too has at the very least some slight touch of Rhodes on it, and throw in a pic of him just for good measure. Betcha it's the only pic of Rhodes in a music video on all of Youtube. Yay, I'm unique!

Couldn't find any lyrics for this. I probably should sit down and try to get them myself, but too tired currently. Might get around to it eventually unless some merciful soul takes it upon himself to do it first.

RIP Joe

Sweet Revenge - The 101'ers AppoCC119 - 597 views - 3 months ago
Sweet Revenge from The 101'ers only officialy released album, Elgin Avenue Breakdown, though the song itself was initially recorded in early '76. Also released as a single twice on different labels in '80 and '81, though I have yet to obtain a certifiable cover for either release (the second pic in the video might be correct, 50/50 it's a fake really).

Beautiful song this, certainly the prettiest (though not necessarily the best) from the 101ers, with a nice acoustic solo from Clive Temperley. According to drummer Richard Dudanski Joe had a heavy cold on the day of recording this song, but I (and Dudanski for that matter) think it just makes the song all the better.
Havn't find any official lyrics to this, but patching up some attempts at translation with my own pathetic guesses, I've come up with at least a decent lyric sheet that is probably correct at least half of the time.

Well maybe Mister alcohol has booted up your chin
The fight it leads to hospital and informing the next of kin
But trying to get your own back should never (win anyway?)
Why don't you change ya tack, Jack and hear me when I say
Sweet Sweet Revenge
She carries a bitter sting
You go round believing in her
But she won't bring a thing
Well, I could well remember when My (cool?) days back at school ooh yeah yeah You hit him, he hits you back
Well, that is all the rules
So my days were occupied yeah
By vendettas all the time
Any stain upon the floor the blood was always mine
Sweet Sweet Revenge
She carries a bitter sting
You go round believing in her
But she won't bring a thing

(repeat)

Straight To Hell (RPFFB) - The Clash AppoCC119 - 344 views - 3 months ago
As requested by CoolConfuzer, this is the original Mick Jones produced version of Straight To Hell that appears on Fort Patrol From Fort Bragg.
It's 1 min and 36 seconds (stretching into 6:55, not 7 min as everyone seems to believe) longer than the Combat Rock version with extended intro and outro and a few added lines about Alphabet City and some else. For me, Straight To Hell is just like Sean Flynn a song with such beautiful music that any added seconds is just something to be grateful for and I don't really mind the differences from the "real" version.
The drums seem a bit more pronounced and the guitars not so clear, but the real highlight of the song, Joe's voice, remains as conscise and bitter as ever. Overall, I don't think anyone had thought of this as "badly produced" had it been released '82. Raw maybe, but that's something else.
Anywho.

RIP Joe

This is a rare clip of Arthur performing I put a Spell on you and Nightmare from a 1968 TV Programme about Gerald Scarfe the artist. Please have in mind there is precious little footage of Arthur from the 60s in existence so every scrap is a treasure in its own right.

Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros -- Live At The Brixton Academy, 2001.

One of the most polished shows the second (and best) Mescaleros lineup would give. Everybody has the Global A Go-Go material down pat and it shows: Tymon Dogg ravages his fiddle on Bummed Out City, Joe is all over the stage during Global A Go-Go, and the entire band is energetic all night.

Highlights include Minstrel Boy, Mondo Bongo and Blitzkrieg Bop, largely because I don't think I've ever seen those performed on video prior to this recording, but the whole show is pretty terrific. A lot more focused and musically diverse than the '99 gigs.

Setlist:
01. Minstrel Boy
02. Junco Partner
03. Cool 'n' Out
04. Global A Go-Go
05. Rudie Can't Fail
06. Bhindi Bhagee
07. Armagideon Time
08. Shaktar Donetsk
09. Police & Thieves
10. Mega Bottle Ride
11. Tony Adams
12. Mondo Bongo
13. Johnny Appleseed
14. Bummed Out City
15. Police On My Back
16. The Harder They Come
17. Pressure Drop
18. I Fought The Law
19. Bankrobber
20. Yalla Yalla
21. Rudy, A Message To You
22. London's Burning
23. Blitzkrieg Bop.

Enjoy!

I like music.
About Me: I´m a guy who likes a lot of music.

THE PANORAMA OF THE CITY IS WRONG
IN FACT THE CITY SEEMS TO BE GONE!
BURNING RUBBER AND SMOKE IN MY EYES
THERE'S A FLAT BURNING JUNKHEAP
FOR TWENTY SQUARE MILES!
THEY TOOK IT INTO THE NUCLEAR MINE
JUDGING BY THIS, THEY LEFT NOTHING BEHIND
DOWN IN THE BUNKERS IN THE CRUST OF THE EARTH
NOW CROUCH THE WEALTHY AND THE NOBLE OF BIRTH

GHETTO DEFENDANT / IT IS HEROIN PITY
NOT TEAR GAS NOR BATON CHARGE
THAT STOPS YOU TAKING THE CITY

AS THE SMOKE OF OUR HOPES ROSE HIGH FROM THE FIELD
MY EYES PLAYED TRICKS THROUGH THE MOON AND THE TREES
I SLEPT AS I DREAMED I SAW THE ARMY RISE
A VOICE BEGAN TO CALL / STAND TILL YOU FALL
THE TUNE WAS AN OLD REBEL ONE

Joe Strummer RIP
