En 1939, algo largamente esperado llegó de lo más inesperado, Hitler invadió Polonia y el mundo se enredó en un conflicto de proporciones épicas, Hombres y mujeres, fueron de repente enviados a las situaciones más desafiantes. Estos héroes, muchos de los cuales sirvieron en el campo de batalla, eran los que ayudaban a liberar el mundo, descifrando códigos enemigos, diseñando cada vez más rápido y mejores aviones e inventando maquinaria y artillería para ganar la guerra. Todos ellos precipitaron el final del mayor cataclismo jamás rodado por una cámara. En esta nueva serie Héroes de la II Guerra Mundial, se ha tenido acceso a más de 500.000 horas de archivos de películas, muchas de las cuales inéditas. En ella, se intenta mostrar a los Espectadores las historias internas de cómo los japoneses y los alemanes fueron vencidos por la habilidad, valentía e ingenuidad de personas cuya vida cambio para siempre tras la II Guerra Mundial.

Bergen-Belsen was a Nazi concentration camp in Lower Saxony in northwestern Germany, southwest of the town of Bergen near Celle. Between 1943 and the war's end, an estimated 50,000 Russian Prisoners of War and a further 50,000 inmates died there,up to 35,000 of them dying of typhus in the first few months of 1945.
The camp was liberated on April 15, 1945 by the British 11th Armoured Division.60,000 prisoners were found inside, most of them seriously ill, and another 13,000 corpses lay around the camp unburied.When the British and Canadians advanced on Bergen-Belsen in 1945, the German army negotiated a truce and exclusion zone around the camp to prevent the spread of typhus. Under the agreement, Hungarian and regular German troops guarding the camp returned to German lines when Allied troops liberated the camp on April 15, 1945.
