Hey, is Gaeilge a "living language"? I'm a good part Irish and I never knew we had our own language (please don't laugh at me). =D

as soon as i get back to school i'll be taking irish classes outside of school, i really want to become fluent and make my contribution to the irish language revival. i would love to see bilingual schools, people talking irish equal to english, and irish actually being taught right!! Slan mo chara (i can't do fadas on my pc :L)

mo chara, i would love to learn to speak irish on a fluent everyday basis but do you not agree that irish is not taught right in our schools? it should be taught as a language to be spoken and then go into the details such as literature and poetry. they throw us in the deep end without basic tools to speak the language to a very good standard. one of my irish teachers even said "you don't have to understand everything". that kind of attitudecontributes to the decline of irish language, and so does the ''you can either speak the language fluently or not at all'' attitude of the government. any thoughts on this?
cheers,
Sean.
