"Many people among the Sikh Sangat believe that Gyani Sant Singh Ji Maskin was not only a fabulous katha vachak, who touched millions of lives all over the world with his wisdom and words, but was also a very, very great man- a kind, compassionate man with a heart filled with love for one and all.
Born in Lak Marawat, Bannu, Pakistan in 1934, he spent more than 50 years of his life spreading the wisdom and knowledge of Gurbani and Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji all over India, and also in many countries abroad. His insight, ideas and ideals was appreciated not only by the Sikh Sangat, but also by many Sikh Religious Bodies, that bestowed on him titles such as 'Panth Ratan' and honours and awards such as 'Gurmat Vidhya Martand' and 'Iss Yug De Bhai Gurdas Ji' Award.
Though one still finds reputable Katha Vachaks today, that have extensive knowledge about sikh history and ideology, none of them can interpret and convey ancient religious history like he did, nor can they divulge deep spiritual knowledge that many believe he acquired through experience alone. His magical voice had such a pull, that it attracted the attention of all who heard it, and the beautiful words he weaved left them spellbound. Another reason why he was so widely loved and respected was that he himself was a perfect example of his teachings, encompassing all the good qualities he preached a man should have. It is rather impossible to find a person who has met him and doesn't love him with all his heart. Some people have turned into his fans simply by listening to his Katha on TV, which played every morning on ETC Punjabi channel for many years and continues even now.
It broke so many hearts worldwide when he passed away on 18th February, 2005, following a heart attack that the whole Sikh community was in mourning for several days. Even today, tears are shed when philosophical questions arise in the hearts of people, and they know that the one whose answer could truly satisfy them is no longer here to hear them out. However, as He only taught us, the ultimate truth of life is death, and we take solace in the fact that his words are still here to guide us, to keep us on the path of righteousness and true Sikhi.
This website has been created as a platform on which all of us can connect and share our lives, and lead them as Maskin Ji taught us. Let us hope it serves its purpose.
