Heavenly Sword

A sexy redhead, a big sword that developer Ninja Theory describes as 'Heavenly', father issues... has anyone seen Sigmund Freud... For the uninitiated (and if you've come through Sony's barrage of hype and remained unintiated - congratulations) you play Nariko, the aforementioned sexy redhead. Nariko is in the unfortunate position of having inherited her dad's job as leader of her clan. Sounds quite cushty, we know. But it's not. We all like sexy redheads, but playing one who just sits around in the lap of luxury all day wouldn't be much of a lark, would it... The problem is that Nariko's tribe is on the run from King Bohan, a nasty sort who's out to conquer Nariko's land and capture the super-powerful Heavenly Sword for himself. As you've probably guessed, its your job to guide Nariko in her quest to save her father, protect the Heavenly Sword and cheat her destiny hacking, slashing and groinmashing her way through hordes of enemy soldiers and bosses along the way. Players will alternate between the traditional beat-'em-up gameplay offered by Nariko and the stealthier, creepier Kai, who uses her crossbow and a motion-sensitive aftertouch mechanic to do wrong to her enemies. The game takes players through lavishly rendered backdrops that boast some of the most stunning next-gen graphics seen. Ninja Theory has gone to great pains to make the story itself immersive and involving, recruiting the likes of Andy Serkis (Gollum in Lord of the Rings) and Stephen Berkoff to see to the motion capture and acting.

Lair

Factor 5 has brought air-based combat to the PlayStation 3. If the phrase 'air-based combat' sounds a bit odd, it's because we can't say 'space combat' or 'Top Gun-alike'. Nope, Factor 5 has broken from tradition. Here be dragons! Factor 5 has something of a pedigree when it comes to flight and fighting. It has worked on, among other things, the Star Wars Rogue Squadron series. Now it's trying its luck at the other end of the escapist spectrum. The world of Lair is not a pretty place. Ravaged by conflict and natural disaster, war is upon the Asylian civilisation once again. Players will need to mount their reptilian winged steed, bred especially for combat both in the skies and on land, and set about saving civilisation. Lair makes full use of the SixAxis' motion sensitive control system, so you'll be diving, swinging 180 degree turns and attacking, all with a wave of your hand(s). Of course, the best/worst/scariest thing about Lair is the monsters. Well, to be more specific, you'll have to fight one particular monster that's a mile long. What does a beast like that eat!...

Resistance: Retribution

Resistance: Retribution's Infection mode. To trigger this great new mode you'll need a PS3 and a copy of Resistance 2. From there you connect your PSP to your PS3 using a USB cable and then power up Resistance: Retribution's main menu. You're then presented with the option to either infect your copy of Resistance or activate the Resistance: Retribution Plus mode.

The first infects Grayson with the same virus Nathan Hale had in the PS3 editions, allowing him to breathe under water and regenerate his health. Plus, Grayson will also be kitted out with a new suit identical to the one Hale wears in Resistance 2, as well as being awarded a powerful Magnum handgun. Resistance: Retribution Plus mode transfers your Wireless Controller to your PSP, allowing you to play the game without an aim assist and control Grayson's point of view movements with the right stick.

Quake 4

The Quake legend grows with the fourth release of this storied shooter. Victory is the only option in an epic invasion of a barbaric planet. But in order to defeat the Strogg, you have to become one of them. Begin the game as an elite marine. After you're captured, re-enter the fray as a "Stroggified" marine with enhanced capabilities. Fight in small-squad missions and in full-scale blitzkriegs that rage across indoor and outdoor battlegrounds. You've got the most advanced weaponry possible with plenty of available modifications, and futuristic vehicles including mechanized walkers and hover tanks. Arena-style multiplayer allows play as Strogg or marine in Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture-the-Flag Modes.
