How to make a Gumpaste Cookie Monster Cake Topper PART 2 09165067633 - 905 views - 1 week ago
this is a basic tutorial on how to make the sesame baby cookie monster. same technique is done for elmo- just change the color and expression. i'll see if I can make other videos for the other characters.

I do get more Kid related stuff requests ... so I am trying to share my little discovery in making the characters. i am sure many of you can make better looking ones once you take your own twist into making these.

I am a youtube-taught fondant cake enthusiast. I made my very first cake on jan 2008. I have been a career woman for over ten years-- and then after having our child, I stopped working and in the process of adjusting to home life, discovered this craft. I have not baked cakes before in my life, more so decorate them... so i had to ask my way through learning how to do it.

I feel the need to say that being a stay at home mom does not mean I have tons of time and one day just decided to make these cakes bec i had nothing to do. Moms, we know this-- we don't HAVE time... in as much as I do encourage others to try this, please do not look at it as a mere product of idleness... someone made that comment to me and I do take offense in it. There's much more to making these than a couple of hours free time.

Mimzywhimzy was the person who practically answered my questions day in and day out. And seriouscakes did a lot of help with my recipe questions and how to make icing etc... and Aine2 just --well, she made me dream .

YOu look at things so beautifully made and you wonder--can I do that too? These ladies will tell you-YES, and that is the same I answer I will give you. So what they taught me, I will pass on.

To those who HATE what I do--bec I don't charge people, bec I destroy their business (?) -- ugh, get a life. Unless it's something really worth paying for-- why not share how to do it? Aine2 has awesome tutorials that are worth hundred times more than what she asks for ... that is so much worth it. Same thing for Sharon Zambito..she's awesome... so unless it's in the same field... we are all in the learning stage...and we can legally learn and share for free.

IF you have seen these cakes and these tutorials and you suddenly start thinking --" maybe I can do that too" -- i want you to know , THAT IS WHY I DO THIS :)

Hi Mayen, I'm feeling a bit down today from my last cake. I just made a cake yesterday and at first, I liked it but eventually I feel like it wasn't all that. Can you give me your honest opinion? I feel like it has tons of flaws on cam.

QueenLeilani, mich0616,cupcakeventure-- thanks so much for your comments. it means a lot to me :) it's when i get emails and comments like yours that really strengthen me during my low days... im happy that many have discovered why this craft is special - because it's NOT JUST cake... it's 'way beyond' that... it's moms finding time for ourselves in the corner of our kitchens..it's kids smiling proudly when their moms and dads bring out the cake they made... you guys know it when it happens to you too. it will make you fall in love with this :)

Hello Mayen, just wanted to say hello and to keep up with your awesome and creative videos. You are truly creative and I first started following you when you entered in your video for the Ace of Cakes challenge. I thought that was an awesome cake. Since then i've noticed you're cakes have surpassed that creation...and I look forwrad to many more of your creations.

hi mayen! i just want to leave you a little note, thanking you for all of your tutorials..they have really helped me..and have inspired a lot of ideas. i am 24 yrs old and because of certain circumstances im a stay at home partner as well. i started making a christmas cake, it was a simple santa but from that a little cake business has taken off. im still learning though, everyday something new comes up, i feel like i have to learn so much but im willing to do so. cakes are so much fun to make but very exhausting and time consuming. but with your tutorials and experience you help all of us who want to someday make even more amazing cakes. =]

Kimiansy-- hi there... swiss meringue buttercream is really good ... i use it all the time...one suggestion to help the cake retain its shape as you smooth it out -- is not to put too much icing after your crumb coat. it will crust well and will be great under pressure as you smooth it out.

You are really a great help to us new in this kind of ventures. I am not that professional compare to you but will sure get inspired to all your creations :) Thanks!

hi mayen. i have tried making fondant cakes just for my family and they come out ok. but since it's too humid here in texas i have to put my cakes in the fridge. is there something that i can do so that the cake does not come out all shinny from the fridge or is there some special way that i can store it. thanks.

hi mayen! i tried making the swiss meringue again. but after i coverred it with fondant i think the swiss merigue melted because when i touched it, felt like there was no icing anymore. can i use it for fondant cakes? can it stay on room temp? does it crust? thanks!!!
